Discover Saint-Emilion
On the Taste of Bordeaux river cruise, guests will have the opportunity to join an excursion to the town of Saint-Émilion. There, you will attend a Grand Cru Classé wine tasting and experience the top wines of the region. Guests will also tour through the famous cathedral, and explore its catacombs and massive underground church. This excursion through history will pull you from ancient times to the early years of the Christian Church. After these guided tours, you will have the opportunity to explore the town through your own eyes during a period of free time. There are plenty of sights to see and shops to explore, including a large assortment of macaron shops, as Saint-Émilion is said to be the birthplace of macarons!

One of our stops in Bordeaux
Cité du Vin might just be one of the best museums built for wine lovers. Founded in 2016, it’s a fairly recent addition to the city of Bordeaux, but has quickly become one of its top sites. As both a museum and exhibition center, it provides an immersive, fun and educational tour through the world of wine, from 6,000 BC to today.

The museum is incredibly interactive, and includes exhibits and displays about the history of wine, grape types, different vineyards, interviews with sommeliers discussing wine pairings, and more. At the end of your tour you can even enjoy a glass of wine with a scenic view of Bordeaux.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do-and when in France, savor créme brúlée, one of the quintessential French desserts. With a smooth, rich, creamy custard underneath a brittle, carmelized topping, this delectable treat has been enjoyed by the French since 1691.
ingredients
1 cup whole milk
6 egg yolks
1 ½ cups sugar
1 tsp. lavender
2 cups crème fraîche
⅔ cup raw sugar
Preparation Method
Boil the milk. Remove from heat and add lavender. Chill for 12 hours. In a small mixing bowl, add egg yolks and whip them while incorporating the sugar until the mixture is nearly white. Strain the chilled milk and place in a saucepan under low heat. Add the crème fraîche slowly while whisking. Let sit for 45 minutes. Rinse the ramequins with cold water and don’t wipe dry. Pour the cream into the ramequins and put them into a water bath with water to mid-height. Place in a 350°F oven for 20 minutes. To serve sprinkle raw sugar on top of the crèmes and caramelize using a kitchen torch (or broil for 5 minutes).

Bordeaux is the largest controlled wine region in France, made up of several subregions, each with its own strictly governed appellation, unique climate, and terroir that define it. When you look at the wine labels here, something seems to be missing – the type of grape. In Bordeaux, the grape variety is simply not as significant a quality market as where the grapes are grown. So, rather than being named “Cabernet Sauvignon” or “Merlot,” you will find that these wines are named after the château and appellation they come from.
