As someone who has sat on the Board of Directors for several organizations AND works with organizations to select Board members and fund the organization, I find it disturbing that the Board of Directors for the Symphony placed all of their eggs in the Martha Ingram basket and when she began to pull her funding a few years ago they did nothing to resolve this...careless and stupid, to be honest! No organization should have a monolithic funding stream...diversity in revenue is KEY to success. Now, there are a lot of musicians who have lost their source of income because of incompetence. So very sad!
The 80-year-old arts nonprofit’s board voted unanimously to take steps toward overcoming a $10 million deficit in its operating budget by ending its regular season early and putting staff on furlough. Other events at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center will proceed as scheduled.
