To all who came out to the Pie Festival today, thank you. I am especially grateful to the friends and family who showed up in the wee hours of the morning despite the cold and kept the pies moving until they sold out. And to everyone who purchased a pie (or two), thank you. Looking forward to next year.

Apple Blossom Festival. I recently learned about this charming festival in the quaint community of Oak Glen. Best of all, they had a baking contest so I entered an Apple Rustic Tart and an Apple Cake. The Apple Tart won first place in the Strudel category, placed there, I guess, because it was neither a pie (it lacked a pan) or a turnover. It was a lovely day in Oak Glen: blue skies, a gentle breeze, and wild flowers in abundance.

The arrival of spring (and watching The Great British Baking Show) inspired me to play around with custard tarts. The chocolate custard (made with almond milk) had a subtle hint of almond that brought out the dark chocolate flavor. The vanilla custard is very versatile and blended well with a dollop of apricot jam. And both the chocolate and vanilla custards were the perfect combination for coconut hand pies—so good they disappeared before they could be captured by the camera! 😋

Had an amazing day at the Claremont Pie Festival on Saturday, March 17, 2018. Friends and pie lovers from all around Southern California came in search of pie. Rhubarb pie (captured a photo of them right out of the oven) proved to be very popular, and was the first item to sell out. We sold out of all pies by 1:00 p.m. Thanks to all who purchased one of our pies and to the many people who stopped by the booth to chat. We are looking forward to the 2019 Pie Festival!
