March is Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month, a time to appreciate the deep cultural history preserved across the state from pueblos and petroglyphs to historic landscapes and traditions that connect us to the people who lived here long before us.

Celebrating 42 Years of SRI!

Today we celebrate SRI’s founding on December 4, 1983, and the simple mission first sketched on a napkin to create a place where creative people could do meaningful work on the human condition and the natural world. Forty-two years later, that mission continues to guide us and remains at the heart of our work in heritage preservation!

As we reflect on our history, here is a look at some of the projects that have shaped us over these 42 years, from California to New York City.

We are proud to carry forward the effort that began 42 years ago, and we are excited for the growth and opportunities ahead in 2026!

Tomorrow, 10/18, we celebrate International Archaeology Day!

Every October, the Archaeological Institute of America and organizations around the world host events that highlight archaeology’s vital role in understanding our shared history. From family-friendly fairs and guided tours to hands-on digs and talks with archaeologists, these activities invite people of all ages to experience the excitement of discovery.

Archaeology is dear to SRI and lies at the core of our mission. Since our founding in 1983, we have provided a space for creative people to do meaningful work that deepens our understanding of the human condition and our natural world. Through research, discovery, and collaboration, we continue to explore and preserve the stories that shape who we are.
