Today is National Rare Disease Day. The staff at Wave Therapies is honored to be a trusted part of the care team for many individuals with rare diseases. We have been enriched by people with rare disease and their passion, resilience, creativity and love for the same kind of coffee we love. Having a rare disease adds to who you are but is not a defining stamp. We are proud to support such groups as CureSMA, Cure Duchenne, Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy, Rett Syndrome Research Trust, The ALS Association and more. Each of these groups supports individuals in our community with support, research and more stable tomorrow. If you have a rare disease and are reading this - you are a valuable part of the Wave Therapies community. If you can support research for rare diseases please look to some of the groups above - they do amazing things.

Today is national caregiver day. The PTs at Wave Therapies have worked with the most amazing, dedicated, passionate and creative caregivers that we believe walk this planet. If you are a caregiver, your energies do not go unnoticed by our team. Thank you for all you do to improve the ability for others to engage in their community and improve independence in a world that is not always designed for everyone's independence. You make a difference.

Wave Therapies had the opportunity to be at the Cure SMA National Conference in Austin a few weeks ago. Delta Airlines had their wheelchair accessible seat prototype there for folks to see and try out. Check out this article from last year on this product and the potential for people with disabilities to travel in the safest way for them - in their chairs. Like what you see - make sure to let Delta and your government representatives know that it is important for all of us to travel safely.

The airline showed off the prototype at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg on Tuesday.

Schools are out and it is time to think about heading to the mountains for some hiking. We have not seen this in person but it looks like a great way to head to the hills with family members who need some extra support.

Take care of your teeth please. Yes, you read that correctly on the page of a PT. I have always said everything is connected in our body and I am periodically reminded that this includes the mouth. Don't put off dental care or oral maintenance please as it can affect your mental and motor skills more than you may think. I have seen, on more than one occasion, dental work that "wasn't essential" put off but when it is completed the change in people is remarkable. Thank you for caring for your entire body - your body appreciates it!

Today Wave Therapies saw patients from under a year to nearly 80! What a great environment where you can sing the ABC's and discuss current politics in one day all while educating people about their bodies or the body of those they love. The water is pretty great - jump on in and try it!

Today please find a reason to laugh. A space to move on your own or with some help - preferably with some sunlight. Some fresh air to breathe and feel move across your skin. If you have some water to jump in and remove some gravity - that is ideal too. Grab the life you have today and live it to your best ability.

Our staff is vaccinated, many of our patients have received vaccine doses and others are moving up on the timeline so they can return to the freedom of the water. Please remain diligent with masks, distancing and kindness. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and it is getting brighter but we are not there yet.

We have been asked several times this week about what can be done to increase governmental awareness regarding vaccinating immunocompromised adults in our community for COVID. For many of these adults (under 50 yo in WA) their care staff is vaccinated but they are not. These adults remain very vulnerable as their care teams can still be carriers and, until they are vaccinated, many of these adults are not leaving home for anything beyond emergent medical care. We encourage everyone to reach out to your governors and county health departments and be a voice alongside health vulnerable adults, who may or may not be able to speak for themselves, to our elected officials. Your energy on this issue is significant. Thank you for taking the time to engage - the lives of those in the Wave Therapies community depend on it.
