Today the FDA approved the first gene therapy treatment for Sanfilippo Syndrome Type A. The work on this has been long and the joy in the community is so rich. The team at Wave therapies is thankful for being part of care for several kids in this community and shares the bitter sweet of a joyous moment while remembering those lights that we have lost. And for the families with Type B - we continue standing with you while the science continues working for your families. The journey continues.

Scholar Rock has been approved by the FDA as the first treatment for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) to work alongside the other medication options for this condition. Its goal is to increase strength and function for those in the SMA community. This is great news and Wave Therapies is excited to see where this takes us!

Today is World Duchenne Awareness Day. We have the priviledge at Wave Therapies to work with many kids, adults and families affected by Duchenne. We have celebrated milestones achieved and accomplishments attained for decades. We keep at the core of who we are those boys and young men we have said goodby to far to soon, and as we celebrate we also never forget.
To the families we walk along side in the Duchenne community, thank you for including us as part of your team. We continue to stand with you while we work tirelessly for a cure.

Welcome back to school and all that brings with it! Back to community, routine, education in all its forms and...exhaustion, early mornings, and routine. Yes, this all can be positive and all can be draining as we return to the school rythm. Please give yourself and your kids some grace as everyone readjusts. The increased stimulation of classes is invigorating for some and an endurance challenge for others. May this long weekend give you a moment to deep breathe, make ahead some lunches, get in a nap and gear up for a great year.

Yesterday Wave Therapies took to the water again with Sail Sand Point and their amazing team! We had an amazing time on the water! They have a transfer device to get people from their chair to the boat and enjoy the water, the wind and the fresh air. We are fortunate to have shared this time with so many folks who are usually in the water with us, and get out on the boats!

Wave Therapies had the opportunity to attend a local event hosted by Cure Duchenne this week. It was a great opportunity to gather as a Becker and Duchenne community and learn about the depth of drugs in the pipeline directed at treating these conditions. Thank you Cure Duchenne for including Seattle as part of your tour - this time was invaluable! Our challenge to those living with or caring from someone with a rare disease is to find your tribe locally or nationally that understaneds you and your needs and your fears. Finding that you are not alone in your journey is that moment to inhale with someone by your side. Need help finding that community? Ask someone on your medical team for direction. We are happy to help foster connection and community.

Yesterday, Wave Therapies with Sail Sand Point took folks out on the water for some sailing on the lake! Thank you to everyone who participated in the Seattle sunshine. We look forward to doing it again and continuing to make the water in all forms more accessible to everyone in our region.

Wave Therapies staff just returned from ICEBAT in Toronto. This conference brings together scientific and clinical aquatic experts from around the globe in one space to learn from each other. It was an incredible learning experience and we look forward to the next conference in 2028!
