An-Nisa’s The People’s Iftar 2026 RECAP
Despite the first beautiful snow of the year falling on our Iftar night, guests still showed up with warmth, joy, and engagement. Alhamdulillah, it was a meaningful evening!
Women gathered across faiths and communities to share diverse cuisines inspired by regions of our ummah facing hardship. We were blessed with beautiful du’as and recitations led by our dear sister *Elyaa*, powerful reflections from sisters representing struggling regions, and a special moment as Sr. Amani demonstrated the traditional Palestinian flipping of the maqluba pot!
We were honored to welcome community members from across the region, including Newcastle city council members, at this interfaith gathering.
While the food and decor were appreciated, the heart of the evening was An-Nisa’s effort to shine a light on the many places in our ummah experiencing suffering and injustice. Listening, remembering, and standing in solidarity together is the least we can do.
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible speakers Elyaa, Amani, Nora, and Shima for sharing stories from regions they represent. Also, a *huge shoutout* to our amazing board and volunteers who made this evening even possible: Batool, Saliha, Muneeba, Amani, Han, Elyaa, Ayesha, Khadija and Asma.
Your hard work was deeply appreciated, and we truly could not have had this event without your help. May Allah reward you all abundantly.*
And as was shared that evening, we look forward to the day when the list of regions we must represent is zero, when all people live with dignity, liberation, and self-determination.
See you next year, inshaAllah!
