T E N // On Sept 6, 2009, I woke up, threw on a bikini, grabbed a 24 pack of beer, went to a Labor Day BBQ and met a boy… then on Sept 6, 2013, exactly 4 years later… I married that boy.

10 years, 3 beautiful kids and a lot of adventures later, here we are.

Happy 10 years Michael!!! I’ll never forget the magic of that day (and week), the pouring rain, the double rainbows, and celebrating with our closest friends and family on the magical island of Maui. 🫶🏼

In Jan 2019 I tried the Artist’s Way for the first time. It was my New Year’s resolution to do morning pages after reading about it from Tim Ferriss years prior. I didn’t quite stick to it because I had a 7 month old who wasn’t sleeping and still nursing. I made excuses that I didn’t have the time and I think I did it for about 4 days then stopped (or fell asleep on my journal).

I’ve always wanted to go through it though. All 12 weeks. But I was “waiting for a good time.” When you have kids there is never a good time. 😂 However, the universe will persist, give you hints and push you so when you are ready, you will know.

For me, ever since I closed down my event planning company in 2019, I’ve felt my creativity vanish. Even writing IG posts became hard. I had started writing a book and that stopped. My Pinterest boards gathered digital dust, my wardrobe turned from trendy colorful outfits to black yoga pants and once 2020 hit I stopped going to the theater.

I had forgotten how much creativity mattered to me until I started Institute for Integrative Nutrition 2022 and I had to analyze all parts of my life, including creativity.

Flash forward to last week when my bestie Danielle McGhee posted she was going to do an Artist’s Way group for the summer. My first reaction - I don’t have the time. Then my gut kicked in and said no, you have to do it now.

So I joined the group, found my book and a “new-ish” journal (how many of you have literally stacks of journals with 1-2 pages written in it then nothing 🙋🏻‍♀️).

When I opened the journal I noticed I had only written on pg 1 back in 9/22 with IIN coaching notes. And on the page it said “the area of my circle of life I need to fix is my physical health and creativity. I need to journal more. Free flowing. I need to do more morning pages. I would love to focus on getting my thoughts out there.” 🤯

It was a sign. I’m in the right place. This is the right time. 🙏🏼✨ I’m now on Day 3. I started it on the plane to Hawai’i and I can already feel the magic unfolding.

Welcome back to a new Mindful Monday series on Mommy's on a Call. It's been a couple months off from podcasting due to an unexpected surgery, illnesses and well, life. I'll go into my health and surgery later on the podcast, but for now, bringing back an episode from Oct 2020 that I thought is so helpful as we move forward to summer and the rest of the year.

It's time to revaluate and eliminate those things wasting our time, draining our energy and bringing us down. In order to make space to grow, expand, build and improve, we need to eliminate those energy drains (aka energy vampires) and in this episode, I go through exactly how to do that. Before we can add, we need to subtract and reevaluate. http://sites.libsyn.com/205487/136-6-steps-to-identifying-and-eliminating-energy-draining-habits-and-activities-in-your-busy-life-mindful-monday?tdest_id=1540391

These three little humans changed my life. They made me a mom, a role and a title I’m proud to hold.

While everyday is a new adventure, my house will literally never be clean and I’m constantly exhausted, they opened me up to new opportunities and perspectives on life.

My kids have taught me unconventional love and compassion. They’ve made me way more patient, empathetic and have actually been the driver and inspiration behind the last 7 years of my journey looking inward and working on my self.

Motherhood looks different for everyone, but the one thing I do know… moms are absolute badasses.

To all the moms out there, Happy Mother’s Day!!! I see you and love you!!!

(Also can someone take me back to Maui 🌴 I sure could use another vacation.)

So I haven’t been 100% honest here through my photos of Mom 2.0. Behind the cute outfits and smiles, I was struggling and now I’m in the urgent care for the 2nd time this week.

Besides being only 4 weeks post surgery, I had broken my temporary crown on my molar right before leaving on my flight (I actually had to fix it myself… and there might have been super glue involved). I started having excruciating ear and throat pain and thought it was because of my tooth, but after an emergency dental appointment, spiking a fever and going to urgent care (now twice), I found out I had throat ulcers and some virus they can’t quite figure out but it’s like herpangina (I sure love illnesses that “usually affect kids”).

While I’ve received many messages that I’ve been having a bad luck month of health, I couldn’t help but laugh.

Yeah I had to speak at the conference in a lot of pain, but all of these incidents and sh*tty health problems have fueled me even more on why I’m pursuing a new path in my “career.”

My passion for whole-person health, meditation, mindfulness, breath work and Ayurveda have only deepened the more I dive into researching the mind/body/soul connection and it’s effects on wellness, mental health and disease especially among women (and even more so moms). It’s why I’m desperately trying to rest more and not “do it all”.

So while I really don’t need any more health ailments for content 😂 without these personal experiences, I wouldn’t have been able to try a lot of these healing modalities first hand, experiment with new food recipes or explore different ways western and eastern medicine can work together.

What started as a curiosity to “fix myself”, has turned into a full blown mission to help others on their health journeys!!!

And a fun fact: I’m almost done with my Chopra Meditation Certification and I’m about to embark on an Ayurveda certification too!!! Stay tuned…

Everyone has trauma and toxic stress. You don't need to have gone through some major life altering event to have unresolved trauma (I mean the last 3 years were traumatic enough for most parents!).

In this episode, I dive deep with Dr. Amy Hoyt on different types of trauma response and toxic stress, common symptoms of unresolved trauma in high-achieving women, and ways we can tune into our bodies to heal from trauma and stop generational trauma so we can optimize our health and happiness.

Dr. Amy Hoyt is the founder of Mending Trauma, a digital mental health company that specializes in trauma recovery, and the co-host of the Universe is Your Therapist podcast with her sister, Leina Hoyt.

Dr. Hoyt is certified in trauma and traumatic stress studies and what I love the most about her work is that she does it from a whole health and holistic psychology perspective. She is passionate about teaching others to reprogram their brains and heal their nervous systems so they can overcome thoughts, triggers and behaviors stemming from past trauma.

On top of it all, Amy is a mom of 5 children, 3 of whom have special needs.

Many of you have followed the last 3+ years of my journey. I’ve had my ups and downs with my kids' sleep which in turn affects us, the parents, getting a good night’s rest.
