I have been helping people with their estate planning needs for decades. Lately clients have been doing "research" about the kind of plan they think they should have before coming to see me. I caution you to be careful about what you read on the internet. There is a lot of information out there which might be inaccurate or which does not fit your needs. Wisconsin does not have any inheritance tax (it was repealed in 1992) and the lifetime gifting exemption for the federal government is currently $15 million dollars. That means that you can gift up to $15 million throughout your life and at death, without any inheritance/estate tax becoming due. The vast majority of people do not need to worry about this issue.
