If reading those 3 things made you cringe a little… good. That means you’ve probably experienced this kind of “icky” HR before, too! 🙃
Some companies will tolerate toxic behaviors from someone who “gets results”… then act confused when the rest of the team checks out.
That’s not high performance! 👎🏻
That’s teaching your employees that behavior only matters when you’re profitable enough to ignore it.
And somewhere along the way, businesses started using policies as a replacement for actual leadership. 🤦🏽♀️
Instead of setting clear expectations, having honest conversations, defining accountability, and providing coaching… everyone gets hit with another rule or policy because something went sideways ONE time.
And oh boy… here comes the great “culture initiative”…
Throwing a pizza party might get a group of 8 year olds excited, but not your employees. Trust me, they are rolling their eyes and checking Indeed on their lunch break if this is your idea of appreciation.
As a business owner, if any of these scenarios feel uncomfortably familiar… there’s a good chance the problem isn’t that HR “doesn’t work.”
It’s that your people are operating in an environment built on reaction instead of leadership.
Your team is exhausted, walking on eggshells, and figuring things out through trial and error because nobody’s actually leading them.
That’s why I don’t believe in building workplaces around fear, bandaid policies, or performative “culture.”
I believe in creating workplaces with mutual value. 🤝
This means the business gets accountability and performance, and employees get clarity, support, and leadership they can actually trust.
Because when both sides benefit, people stay, teams perform better, and the business grows without everything feeling so damn hard.
