Learning from the students who will call it home!✏️🏫

Smithridge Elementary students are diving into project-based learning, investigating their current learning environment and exploring the future. Through hands-on discovery and observation, students are getting a glimpse of what’s to come as we design a new and improved school built to support the way they learn, grow, and connect.

We’re excited to see their curiosity help shape the future of the new Smithridge Elementary! ✨

We’re excited to share a first look at the vision for the new St. Teresa of Avila Child Development Center in Carson City, Nevada.
The new school will relocate adjacent to St. Teresa of Avila Church along Lompa Lane, creating a new home for students from Pre-K through 8th grade. Designed to embrace its setting, the project features meaningful connections to the surrounding landscape, including views toward the Sierra Nevada.
After years of planning and collaboration, we’re excited to see the design move forward and the vision begin to take shape through these renderings. Construction is anticipated to begin in Spring 2027, with a planned opening for Fall 2028.

In partnership with Plenium Builders, we are proud to be part of this next chapter for the St. Teresa of Avila community and look forward to watching this vision become a place for learning, growth, and community.

These inspiring projects by SWA demonstrate how thoughtful landscape architecture can transform public space into a place for connection, activity, and community. They reminds us that great design isn’t just something we see; it’s something we experience.

At Van Woert Bigotti Architects, we believe looking beyond our own work makes us better designers and stronger advocates for our communities. By learning from projects around the world, we can continue to invite those ideas into shaping the future of Northern Nevada.

What makes these projects stand out to you? Could principles like these inspire new gathering spaces here in Reno and across Northern Nevada?

to Fallon Youth Center 2020 — a project designed to bring energy, creativity, and community together through playful, functional design. Bold colors, oversized graphics, and engaging interiors helped create a space where fun and function go hand in hand.
Always fun to revisit people-focused projects that continue to inspire the community!
