Social Entrepreneurs, Inc. (SEI) is a small, boutique consulting firm dedicated to improving the lives of people by helping organizations realize their potential. We are seeking a full-time Controller to ensure that all accounting, finance, regulatory compliance and other internal functions are performed in a timely, accurate and responsive manner. If you are mission-driven, team-oriented, thrive on handling key business functions from strategy down to the details, and are ready for a leadership role in a small company having a big impact on vital community services, this is the perfect position for you.
Duties:
• Manage, and perform as needed, all accounting and financial reporting processes, systems and records. This includes invoicing of clients for diverse consulting projects, AR, AP, payroll, cash flow management, general ledger, month-/year-end close, and financial statement generation.
• Ensure that proper internal controls are implemented and maintained.
• Work with project and company managers to execute and manage contracts with clients, subcontractors and other vendors, then help resolve contractual issues as needed.
• Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including both financial (e.g. tax-related) and non-financial (e.g. business licenses, registered agents in other states) matters. This includes monitoring regulatory changes and communicating new or modified regulations affecting SEI with recommendations about their implications and how best to meet them.
• Assist with the development of the annual budget, working in coordination with the SEI team and the President who are all involved in budget preparation.
• Define, implement and monitor internal policies and procedures related to fiscal and administrative operations.
• Prepare special reports and analyses as requested by the Leadership Team or President.
• Manage accounting/administrative personnel, including oversight of administrative support needed for client service projects.
• Other duties may be assigned based on company needs and the abilities of the Controller.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or other business discipline may be accepted with solid accounting work experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of work experience in accounting roles, to include hands-on experience with different accounting functions (AR, AP, payroll, etc.). A minimum of 2 years of experience in a managerial or supervisory role is strongly preferred.
• Solid working knowledge of QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel is essential. Experience with Mavenlink or other project management software is beneficial but not required.
Essential Characteristics:
• Committed to SEI’s mission to improve the lives of people by helping organizations realize their potential.
• Superior organization and problem-solving skills.
• Detail-oriented, with both the willingness and ability to personally perform detailed accounting and administrative tasks as needed rather than just delegating and overseeing all such tasks.
• Able to work effectively in a team-oriented environment with distributed leadership where all associates strive to support each other, yet also able to make decisions and work independently to sustain operations within the scope of duties for the position.
• Flexible and adaptable, able to find new solutions to meet changing client and company needs.
• A positive, can-do attitude with the ability to work well with diverse personalities.
• Excellent personnel management skills – able to identify and recruit needed talent, then coach, direct and support associates to be successful.
Salary and Benefits: Full-time position, annual salary $60,000 - $75,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
Excellent benefits include comprehensive employer-paid health insurance (medical, dental, vision and life/disability), 401(k) plan with 4% employer match of employee contributions, 15 days of paid vacation and eight paid holidays per year, and potential for flexible work schedules as needed.
