Ever wonder what this glowing machine does? It’s called a hydroxyl generator, and it plays a key role in improving air quality during restoration projects.

We use it primarily after smoke and fire damage, but it’s also effective for mold and water damage cleanup. It works by producing hydroxyl radicals, which break down smoke particles, odors, bacteria, and VOCs in the air.

Hydroxyl generators are a supplemental tool. They support the restoration process by improving air conditions but are always used alongside containment, drying equipment, and source removal.

This week’s project: Mold behind a pantry

What looked like a few black marks along the edge of the pantry turned out to be a much bigger issue. Once we removed the pantry cabinet, we found mold growing on the drywall and spreading behind it. The moisture had been trapped in a tight, enclosed space, creating the perfect conditions for mold to grow.

Our team safely removed the pantry, opened the wall, and performed a full mold remediation. That included removing affected drywall, treating the exposed structure, and setting up containment to prevent cross-contamination. The area was dried, cleaned, and left ready for rebuild.

Common signs to look out for:
👃🏼If you notice a musty smell in the area
⚫️Discoloration (black, brown, green, yellow) or spotting on walls or baseboards
🫧Soft or bubbling drywall
🤧 Inceeased allergy symptoms indoors

This building was impacted by the 🔥 The sprinklers activated during the incident, and leaking continued afterward. With poor ventilation and trapped moisture, mold had the perfect environment to grow.

By the time we arrived for smoke damage restoration, mold was already visible and spreading across the walls and ceilings. The affected areas had to be completely demoed.

And while this was a large-scale loss, the conditions aren’t unique. In everyday homes 🏠 something as simple as showering without an exhaust fan or letting condensation build up can lead to similar issues over time.
