My 4-year-old daughter suddenly died at daycare — then her teacher called and said, "I SENT YOU THE SECURITY CAMERA FOOTAGE. YOUR HUSBAND IS LYING TO YOU!"
That morning, I was supposed to drop my 4-year-old daughter, Ava, off at daycare like I always did.
But I had an early meeting, so my husband, Mark, offered to take her instead.
A few hours later, her teacher called me in a panic and said Ava had suddenly become very sick, and an ambulance had taken her to the hospital.
By the time Mark and I got there, the doctor came out and told us Ava hadn't survived.
After that, everything felt like a blur.
Mark handled the funeral arrangements. I had no strength left.
I didn't know how to keep living at all.
My heart was shattered.
Only five days had passed since the funeral.
I sat at home, barely moving. I hadn't eaten in days.
Suddenly, my phone rang.
It was Miss Greenwood, Ava's daycare teacher.
She was the one who had called me the day Ava got sick.
Her voice was trembling:
"Mrs. Carter... I'm sorry to bother you. I don't even know how to explain this. I was reviewing the security footage and rewatching the day Ava got sick..."
My heart started pounding.
I asked:
"Yes... and what did you see?"
She cleared her throat and continued:
"I'm going to send the security footage to your phone as soon as I copy it. Please watch it. I feel uncomfortable saying this, but... your husband is lying to you."
My stomach twisted.
A few minutes later, I got a message from Miss Greenwood.
I opened the video.
My hands were shaking, but I pressed play.
When I saw what had happened on the day Ava died, the air left my lungs.
