If so, then this is called a โ€œPlatitude.โ€œ

Features vs Benefits vs Unconscious Needs

Which one will close more sales?

Many years ago, I was sitting across from a big time Los Angeles venture capitalist (VC).

He agreed to hear about my great software opportunity.

I began to demo my ERP Software, which took 10 years to develop.

I carefully went through the functionality, features, and benefits.

And 10 minutes into the best software presentation I have ever given, he stopped me and said...

"SELL ME THE SIZZLE, NOT THE STEAK"

I thought to myself, wasn't he listening?

I had just covered an impressive list of Features, Benefits, & Functionality.

Maybe he just didn't understand.

So, I started again, but this time I explained things slower and really focused on the important features and benefits.

But he stopped me again and said...

"YOU HAVEN'T TOLD ME WHY I SHOULD BUY."

Not understanding what he meant, I thought to myself, "this guy must be an idiot!"

A few years later I finally understood what he was trying to tell me.

People don't buy features, or even benefits, they buy emotional gratifications.
