Employee Spotlight-Jose R. Garcia
Jose, originally from Juan Aldama Zacatecas, grew up in North Texas, it was growing up on the southern terminus of the Chihuahuan desert that triggered his interest in Archaeology. Jose has been working and volunteering in archaeology since 2015. He graduated from the prestigious University of Texas at Arlington anthropology program. Jose’s field school took place in Wimberley Texas on a private ranch, that lead him to a career in CRM archaeology, the following year he would be a T.A. at that field school. Jose has vast experience working in West Texas but has extensively worked all over Texas, Oklahoma and the southeast (except Florida). Jose has had many roles in his career, from tech to field director. He likes to read up on an area before working that area, so he knows what to look for. His interests include all of Texas prehistoric archaeology, he doesn’t mind historic archaeology. He also likes the Texas Rangers, and The Simpsons ( the first 11 seasons), and spending time with his wife and baby daughter.

With Juneteenth approaching, it's important to highlight events and organizations working to preserve history and uplift communities.

Remembering Black Dallas is an organization “with a mission to preserve and promote the African American life, history, artifacts, and culture of Dallas and its surrounding cities.” RBD hosts a variety of community based events including, educational talks, tours, and celebrations. You can find more information on future events and membership at: https://rememberingblackdallas.org/events and on their social media

The Texas Freedom Colonies Project “is an educational, social justice initiative dedicated to preserving the heritage of Texas’ historic African American settlements, and the planners and preservationists that made them possible.” Last year, we highlighted the Texas Freedom Colonies Atlas as an important tool for archaeologists. However; it is also a tool the public can use to learn more about surrounding communities and local heritage. You can search the already existing database or volunteer to be involved with the ongoing research of the project. You can find out more about their work at https://www.thetexasfreedomcoloniesproject.com or through their social media

Employee Spotlight- Kaylee Henderson
Kaylee is a Tech III with ARC who is graduating today with her Masters of Arts in Anthropology from Texas State University. Kaylee's interest in archaeology began in 2015 when she shadowed Dr. Skinner for her school project at New Tech High @ Coppell. Dr. Skinner showed her that archaeology exists in her own backyard and inspired her to continue her education at Texas State University where she received her bachelor's degree. After graduation in 2020, she began working with ARC on Bois D'Arc Lake as a field technician in their field lab until she transitioned to the manager of the Lake Ralph Hall field lab. In 2022 she got the opportunity to work in Nasca, Peru on Dr. Christina Conlee's Huaca del Loro project and started graduate school the following semester where she conducted an iconographical analysis of Nasca head jars for her thesis research. She came back to ARC in 2024 and worked as assistant field lab manager and field technician until transitioning to the office in 2025 where she conducted shell analysis and is a proud member of the professional development committee.

Employee Spotlight- Dani Fitzgibbon
Dani grew up in Michigan and received her Bachelor’s from Central Michigan University. She then attended field school and subsequently interned at James Madison’s Montpelier in Virginia. Her time there was spent learning from some excellent teachers and falling more in love with archaeology and the outdoors. Some moving around followed before finally settling in Texas where her immediate family, niece, and nephews live. Dani has been with AR Consultants, Inc. since 2018 where she started as a field tech. She is currently working toward becoming an expert in wood charcoal and seed identification from samples recovered during archaeological excavations. In her spare time she loves to enjoy nature with her husband RJ, their children Ireland (9) and Lainey (1.5), and their dogs Maverick and Bosco.
