7/7 update for Chicken Farm Ln: The NC Forest Service will soon begin to scale the incident back. The fire is still marked at 50% containment. Forestry has been able to strengthen plow lines. Fires like these will continue to burn/smolder for quite some time until they get a good rain, and sometimes will continue even after that. There continues to be no threat to the public.

Containment doesn’t necessarily mean the fire is free burning/out of control. It means that they don’t feel completely comfortable with walking away from specific areas just yet. These are the areas forestry is focused on, and will remain dedicated to.

8AM Update 7/6: North Carolina Forestry has marked containment at 50% for the Chicken Farm Ln fire. They have worked to continue building fire lines Throughout the weekend. There is still no threat to the public.

8 AM update for Chicken Farm Ln fire: Not a lot of change from yesterday. People living in the area may have noticed heavier smoke in the afternoon due to shifting winds and lower humidity. This is to be expected. The NCFS continues working to increase fire lines.

Good Morning, this is the first Update that we will provide for the Chicken Farm Ln fire. The fire currently sits around 210 acres with 10% containment. You will see large columns of smoke likely throughout the weekend and into the first of the week. There is no threat to the general public at this time. The North Carolina Forest service will be working the fire throughout the day. We will continue providing updates as we get them.

We would like to give a congratulations to our very own, firefighter Kody Pierce who graduated from the fire academy tonight. Over the last year Kody has worked hard to obtain his EMT certification and firefighter certification. It’s a long process that requires full attention, while also managing a full time job and family. We couldn’t be more proud.

Kody was also the recipient of the Billy Roth Colleague award, voted on by his peers. Congratulations!

Our county is currently under a burn ban. We will post when the ban is up. Thank you

Effective 8AM Sunday, March 29, 2026 Onslow County will implement a County Burn Ban until further notice due to increased fire risk. The burn ban for Onslow County does not allow for any open burning within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling until conditions improve.

The North Carolina Forest Service issued a statewide burn ban effective 6PM March 28, 2026 but it does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. Onslow County implemented its local burn ban in cooperation with the State of North Carolina to reduce the risk of wildfires starting and spreading.

Open burning includes burning leaves, branches, or other plant material. In all cases burning trash, lumber, tires, newspaper, plastics, or other nonnegative material is illegal. The only exception to the County wide burn ban is for the use of outdoor cooking and warmth purposes.
