Most that were discharged due to refusal of the COVID-19 vaccine refusal are now eligible to rejoin the military and receive backpay. This sounds great for those wanting to rejoin the military, but don't count on that backpay too quickly. See below for a link to the DFAS page regarding COVID reinstatement and backpay. There will be many deductions to your backpay. The government will deduct any VA disability payments as well as any civilian pay earned during the backpay period among other deduction. You will have to submit your tax returns and W-2s to DFAS before you receive any backpay. So if you earned more in the civilian world than you did while in the military, you will not receive backpay. This may come as a surprise to many who rejoin.
If you were involuntarily separated from Military Service due to COVID-19 vaccination requirements, you may be eligible for reinstatement. Learn more about the process.
