Here's the breakdown: more quality citations = better local rankings = more customers finding you instead of your competitors.

Now before you go buying some $5 Fiverr package that gets you listed on "Bob's Random Directory Site" and 47 other sketchy places, let me save you some headache.

I use Whitespark.ca for citation building. Yeah, it costs more than those bargain basement services, but here's the thing - they actually get you on sites that matter. Sites Google actually looks at and respects.

The difference between quality citations and garbage ones is like the difference between getting a recommendation from the Better Business Bureau versus getting one from your cousin's friend who "knows about business stuff" (you know the type)

Quality citations help establish your digital footprint across the web. Google sees your business info consistently listed on reputable sites and thinks "okay, this business is legit" instead of "hmm, this looks sketchy"

So stop asking where to buy citations and start asking where to buy GOOD citations. Your local rankings will thank you later.

This client dropped us a few months back because they wanted to pivot to a new agency. (Not the end of the world but this was completely predictable)

Check out these beautiful keyword rankings after they left...

Turns out their new "experts" didn't quite grasp that whole "SEO is an ongoing process" thing. Who could have seen THAT coming?

This is exactly why I keep telling people - SEO isn't some magic trick you do once and walk away if you're in a remotely competitive niche. It's like going to the gym. Stop showing up and guess what happens to those gains? (you get fat. trust me)

Look, I get it human beings naturally want to look for greener grass but this goes to show you the importance of properly vetting someone's skillset. But when you're shopping for an agency you need to really slow down and understand the marketplace and how to clarify and understand someone's skillset first.

Look at their past client websites on desktop and mobile. Download a free trial to some kw research tools like Semrush and Ahrefs and check how they rank.

Having a physical location and connections to expensive client's doesn't translate to results like you guys think it does.

Yeah, Karen, and they'll probably bounce back next week. Or not. Who knows anymore.

The real s**tstorm? While everyone's obsessing over these daily ranking fluctuations, they're missing the actual important stuff:
Is your Google Business Profile optimized?
Are you getting actual phone calls and leads?
ARE YOU EVEN TRACKING THAT?

Nah, let's all panic about whether we're position 4 or position 8 today. (because that's totally what's keeping you up at night, right?)

Agency owners are the worst with this. Sending panicked emails to clients every time there's a blip. "We need to discuss your SEO strategy immediately!"

Dude, chill. Your client's plumbing business isn't going bankrupt because they dropped 3 spots for "emergency toilet repair" yesterday.

Here's some free advice: Stop checking rankings every 5 minutes and start focusing on stuff that actually moves the needle. Like getting more reviews, fixing your website, or I dunno... actually helping customers?

The SERP volatility will calm down eventually. It always does. Until then, maybe try running an actual business instead of refreshing rank trackers all day.

Just a thought.
