Salt & Acid is six today. 🍋✨

Six years ago I started this business on a hunch that people wanted more from the drinks at their events. Since then it’s been weddings and backyard celebrations, company holiday parties and small dinners for twelve, and plenty of nights I still think about.

Every menu still starts the same way, with what’s in season and what I can forage close to home.

To everyone who booked us and then sent their friends our way, thank you. This business is built on you.

Year seven starts now. Fall and holiday dates are filling up, so reach out through the link in bio when you’re ready.

Five drinks, only through October 31. 🦇

Black and Blood is mezcal with chile liqueur and blood orange on a black salt rim. Agonizing in the Abyss is bourbon, blackberry and earl grey, garnished with a dragon fruit te****le. Yes, a te****le. Necromancer has a little absinthe in it. Hocus Pocus is lychee, lavender and basil, and it can be made non-alcoholic. Fear the Reaper finishes it off with house-made grenadine and a salted lime foam.

Hosting a Halloween party? We have several dates left this month. Inquire at saltandacid.com / link in bio.

New season, new menu. 🍂

Our fall and winter lineup is here. There's a Pear-Ginger 75 with candied ginger for the toast, a Saffron Gimlet with dried rose for anyone who wants something they've never had, and a Honey Nut Old-Fashioned for the bourbon crowd. Almost everything can be made non-alcoholic.

We're booking holiday parties, private events and cocktail classes now. November and December fill up fast.

Fall Tastes Better Out of a Good Cup

There's a right way to move into fall. Slow down, warm your hands on something good, and let the flavors take their time. This season that means pomegranate and ginger, saffron and honey, maple and star anise, all landing in the new Fall/Winter menu. Here's a closer look at what's pouring.

Fall Just Walked Into the Bar

The Pomegranate Grove leans bright and tart, house-made grenadine under a salted lime foam. The Saffron Gimlet runs honey and dried rose through gin, quieter than it sounds. For bourbon drinkers, the Honey Nut Old-Fashioned pairs salted honey and walnut against orange bitters, and the Maple Sour brings orange-infused maple and star anise to something warmer than a standard sour.

Let the Vessel Tell the Story

Salt & Acid partnered with Alma's Gallery & Shop , our neighbors right here on Brookland Park, for their 2026 Cup Show: nearly 1,000 handmade cups and mugs from more than 100 local and visiting artists. Two of our fall cocktails were styled entirely in pieces from the show. The stir sticks are Emily McBride's, the little bowls are Matt Kolbrener's, the tall glass is Jasmine Steinacker's, and the piece holding our bluekberry cocktail is Emily Brasch's Blueberry Cup. It's up now, worth a trip down the block to see the rest in person.

September is Virginia Spirits Month and Bourbon Heritage Month, so this one had to be Virginia all the way down. 🥃

Dawson's Reserve from Copperfox Distillery is a wheated bourbon made with barley they malt by hand and smoke over peachwood. It's named for the late Billy Dawson, the Virginia farmer whose company grows their grain. You can taste the orchard in it. There's soft peach and pear, a little smoke, and caramel on the finish.

We stirred it down with honey to lean into that sweetness, added black walnut bitters for depth, and finished it with a long lemon twist over one clear sphere. It tastes like the first cool night of fall.

Fall calendars are filling up. If you're hosting this season, we'd love to pour for it.

I'm on LinkedIn & wrote my first article there! 💛

If you've ever made a drink that tasted a little flat and reached for more sugar, I've got some news: that's probably not what it needed. After twenty-plus years behind bars around Richmond, from Can Can to Pasture to Perch, I finally sat down and wrote out the actual framework I use for every drink I build. Sweet, acid, bitter, salt. Once you know which one is missing, you stop guessing.

Give it a read, and tell me what your go-to fix is when a drink's just not quite right. Link below.

What August tastes like

August in Richmond is the last full month of summer, and you can taste it. Mountain mint on the trail edges, figs coming in heavy, the first hint of what fall will pour like. Every menu we build this month started outside, in a field or a market stall, before it ever reached a glass. Here’s what’s ahead.

I have made the difficult decision to cancel my upcoming class on 8/19 at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. This step is being taken to stand in solidarity with the unionized workers in their call for a living wage. In Henrico County, the living wage is $25.07/hr, yet many of these workers earn well below that amount despite holding specialized bachelor’s degrees.

As the daughter of a union steward and the wife of a union laborer, I deeply understand the critical role unions play in holding employers accountable. After carefully reviewing the statements released by both the garden and the union, I fully support the union.

I sincerely apologize to the attendees for any inconvenience this may cause. It is my hope that both sides can reach an agreement soon so that my classes may resume.
