Spending Money to "Just" Save on Taxes Is NOT a Viable Strategy

Here's Why

When your only goal is to save on taxes
You Spend $100 to save $30-$40
Which means NET you are still out $60-$70

Did that purchase move your business forward? Or make it more efficient? Or create a way to make you more revenue?

If not, you just $60-$70

Do you ever spend to "just save on "?

Looking for the most profitable products for your small business?

Consider services, such as consulting or coaching

where you can sell your time and expertise

These types of products don't require a lot of overhead

If you're looking to scale, e-commerce can also be a great option

but make sure to know your gross margins

And don't forget about digital products like eBooks

which have a low cost to create but can be sold over and over again

When should I do planning for my business?

Every business is different
But, here are my suggestions

1. Pick a time that is slower for your business
2. Schedule it regularly (at least every 6 months)
3. Include all key team members
4. Prepare for the session by reviewing historical numbers
5. Remove all distractions
6. Limit your biases from prior planning sessions

What should I consider when bringing on a partner in my business?

Legal Paperwork is the MOST important thing you need to have in place if you head down this path
(I'm not an attorney but can refer you to some amazing attorneys to officially advise you)

Some things you'll want to consider and discuss with your potential business partner and attorney

Ownership Percentages
Investment Required
Voting Procedures
Voting Tiebreaker Procedures
Are there thresholds where an owner can unilaterally make a decision (think small purchases)
How to "Get Out"
What happens if someone dies
And so much more

View it as a business "marriage" where things are great (until they aren't)
Business divorce is not great for anyone and in a lot of cases is worse than marital divorce

This Bookkeeping issue plagues small business financial statements

Not reconciling credit card transaction fees from providers like Stripe

Why is this an issue?
Stripe is going to report the total of all transactions to the IRS (before their fee)
If you only report the amount after their fees the IRS WILL send you a notice

Do you like receiving IRS notices in your mailbox?

I know I don't
