Yesterday’s annual conference for the Virginia Wing, Civil Air Patrol was a great day with a lot of good friends and great people. Special thank you to Delegate Karrie Delaney for coming to Richmond as the keynote speaker. Karrie was a Civil Air Patrol Cadet. She spoke to the cadets and Senior Members about how CAP contributed to her role in getting involved, participating and being a leader. I was honered to be recognized for my Team’s successes with the Virginia Legislative Squadron, Civil Air Patrol in its work in Virginia and the work of our Legislative Intern program. A great day of fun, learning and celebrating the successes of the last year. A special shout out to Liz Sydow in appreciation for her support over the past three years of her Command for our Squadron’s mission.

Today on the floor, my colleagues and I recognized Susan Clarke Schaar, Clerk of the Senate, for her 50 years of service to the Commonwealth. To put that in perspective for local folks, Ms. Schaar started working for the Senate during Doc Truban’s first term!

A number of Senators along with Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears praised the Clerk and her outstanding staff for their hard work, not only during session, but throughout the year. They really keep this place running!

A donation from the Senators will be made in Susan’s name to the Virginia Capitol Foundation to recognize everything she’s done for our state legislature.

Every day, and especially on International Women's Day, Advantus Strategies celebrates and promotes women's achievements. Today, we recognize the incredible work of our colleague Lauren Gilbert who was recently honored with TWO awards. Seen below (center), Lauren was the recipient of a special acknowledgement by The Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership where she dedicated 12 years to developing and facilitating its political programs to support the Commonwealth's current and future leaders. Lauren was also just honored with a Joint Resolution from the VA House of Delegates in admiration for her contributions to the Commonwealth. Join us in celebrating Lauren and help us for women and girls everywhere.
