Honored to be featured in Woman’s Week.

“People are no longer looking for polished messaging. They’re looking for clarity, consistency, and leadership that understands how decisions actually affect communities. “– P. Celeste Burks

In a time when public trust feels fragile, this piece reflects the work I care most about—helping institutions communicate with clarity, accountability, and respect for the people they serve.
J. Hampton Strategies was built on legacy, lived experience, and a belief in what I call the human cause: that people deserve truth, context, and leadership that doesn’t disappear when things get hard.

Grateful for the opportunity to share this perspective and for every community, organization, and leader committed to doing the work the right way.

Riverdale Youth Are Stepping Into the Spotlight ✨

I’m excited to share that the City of Riverdale, GA is launching a new youth lyric contest as part of our 2026 State of the City experience and the city’s refreshed brand identity, Where Everything Flows.

Inspired by the energy and message behind Ciara’s hit “This Is How We Roll,” our theme — “This Is How We Flow” — invites middle and high school students to express their pride, creativity, and vision for Riverdale through original lyrics.

We’re not using the song itself, but we are channeling its spirit to encourage young people to put their voice at the center of the story. Because when youth lead, communities move.

This initiative is all about:
✔️ Celebrating young storytellers
✔️ Building authentic community identity
✔️ Ensuring the next generation sees themselves in Riverdale’s future

I love projects that give our youth the mic and the moment they deserve. 🎤✨

I can’t wait to see how our students show the world how Riverdale flows. 💙

No More Being the Good Girl: From Appropriate to the Unapologetic Woman

I’ve lived a life of appropriateness.

The appropriate daughter.
The appropriate friend, girlfriend, cousin, niece.
The appropriate employee. The appropriate leader.

Every role came with unspoken rules — and whenever I dared to step outside of them, I got my hand metaphorically slapped. What does that even look like? It looks like reprimand dressed up as “feedback.” It sounds like don’t say that, don’t do that, tone it down, that’s not how we do things here.

When Appropriate steps out of bounds, it goes like this; feels.like this; sounds like this:
You advance positive narratives at work, and people become jealous.
You build bridges and stand in gaps, and suddenly you’re a threat.
You open doors for minorities in places that were never friendly to them, and suddenly you’re “too much.”

🚨 Issue Three is here! 🚨

The third issue of Call & Response: Message + Movement is live -diving into the conversations, strategies, and real-life applications that help leaders, communicators, and change-makers show up with clarity and purpose.

This week, we’re talking about changing your circle—the discomfort, the decisions, and the intentional alignment it takes to step into your next level.
If you’ve ever felt the pull to re-evaluate who and what surrounds you, this one’s for you.

Read the latest issue and share your take. Because all it takes is:
• One conversation.
• One mentor.
• One introduction.
That’s all it takes to change the trajectory of your life.

🚀 TAKE THE CIRCLE CHALLENGE:
If you could add ANYONE to your circle - mentor, peer, or partner - who would it be?
Tag them in the comments.
Then tag 2 more people who inspire you.

Your network is your net worth, and your circle is your secret weapon.
Let’s choose them with intention and build circles that inspire, challenge, and align with the best version of ourselves.

Our first issue of Call & Response launched two weeks ago. In case you missed it, here's what you can find in Issue One.

“The Message Isn’t the Movement… Until It Moves People”
You can have the cleanest branding, the sharpest tagline, and the best of intentions—but if your message doesn’t move people, it’s just noise.

In the first issue of Call & Response, I unpack the #1 lesson that has shaped my work in communication and civic engagement:
✨ Message alone is not the movement.
It’s the spark. The invitation. The first drumbeat.

This issue explores:
✅ Why listening is more powerful than broadcasting
✅ How lived experience outshines polished language
✅ What happens when we center people, not just platforms
✅ The real cost of getting the message wrong

Reflection prompt: When was the last time you felt truly moved by a message? What made it stick?

Let’s spark something. Let’s move something.
Let’s build the message and the movement—together.
