Any other Gen Xers or Millennials remember those old-school vending machines where a chicken lays an egg and a prize comes rolling out?

Watching stainless steel parts emerge from our Gen Turn Swiss machine reminds me a little of that.

We recently finished machining 150 parts that weren't originally designed to be machined...

One of our OEM clients needed functional parts for field testing before investing in injection molding tooling. Our industrial design team suggested a few changes to the geometry and recommended switching to acetal so we could machine the parts efficiently.

This is Alex, our lead machinist, with one of the finished parts. He handled the programming, setup and fixturing for the job on one of our Haas VF-2s.

We’re adding another person to our woodshop team in Richmond.

Tektonics is hiring a full-time CNC Router Operator & Woodshop Associate, with a primary focus on CNC routing and production work, under the guidance of our Woodshop Manager.

CNC routing is a core service capability at our shop, and our routers stay busy producing parts made from wood, plastics and other sheet materials for a wide range of commercial and manufacturing projects.

Previous CNC router experience is welcome, but it’s not required. We’re looking for someone with at least two years of hands-on experience in wood-related fields like cabinetry, carpentry or production wood fabrication who's interested in learning CNC routing and growing with our team.

This is a full-time, in-person position with a pay range of $17–$25/hour, depending on experience, with benefits.

We’ve been working toward this for a long time, and it’s exciting to finally be able to share more about what’s happening around the shop.

We’ve started a major renovation of our 20,000 sq ft building in Manchester, with more than $1 million being invested in the facility that houses both Tektonics Design Group and Fern & Roby.

The project includes a new geothermal system and roof, improvements throughout our manufacturing spaces, and an expanded Fern & Roby listening room and showroom. The geothermal system is an especially important part of the project for us, helping us reduce the building's energy use as we invest in making the facility more sustainable for the long term.

We’ll continue designing and manufacturing throughout construction, which is making life around the shop a little interesting at the moment.

This project is a significant investment, but we’re making it with the long term in mind. For us, that means our team, our manufacturing capabilities, and our commitment to continuing to make things here in Richmond.

These bronze input plates are being machined for DeVore Fidelity’s O/Reference Series loudspeakers.

These components, along with the bronze port tubes we also manufacture for DeVore, are designed to be de-coupled from the O/Ref speaker cabinet to help reduce vibration.

The plates are cast in Indiana, machined in our Richmond shop on Haas VF-2 vertical mills, and then shipped to Brooklyn, where John DeVore crafts his loudspeakers.

We’ve had the opportunity to support through the production of machined bronze components for a number of their speaker models over the years.

It’s rewarding to see work that begins as raw material in our shop become part of a finished product celebrated by audiophiles around the world.

One of the ways we bring value to our industrial clients is by maximizing material yield in high value production runs. Today, Sarah, Tektonics Senior Industrial Designer, is programming the automatic bandsaw for a job that Alex, Machine Shop Manager, is working on in the main machine shop with the Haas CNC centers. Sarah's programming the saw to optimize the length and cut of the bar material that will be fixtured over in the CNC mill by Alex. The value? We're working to meet our client's shortened timeline, while still increasing efficiency in addition to reducing cost. Our versatile design and manufacturing teams work closely together, and support each other in our work to deliver high-quality parts to clients.

Sarah, our Senior Industrial Designer, and Alex, our Machine Shop Manager, are discussing a first article for a tonearm rest height adaptor for the F&R Montrose Turntable. Fit and finish checked, approved, and production is officially underway.

Truth? It can be a challenge to explain to folks all that we are capable of. We often find ourselves surprised at how tough it can be to answer a seemingly simple question like "so, what exactly do you all DO?" What we do (and have done for more than 20 years) is take on an incredibly diverse range of projects and deliver results. We're fortunate to have an amazing team with a very unique mix of in-house skills and capabilities; as trained artists, industrial designers, machinists & craftspeople, we can take a germ of an idea and guide it from concept to full production mode, all under one roof. We also love to just crank out parts in the shop, if that's what our client needs. We are experts in materials and processes and have amazing relationships across supporting trades.
