Several members of the Ridge VFD recently attended an intensive two-day training seminar led by Dr. Rich Gasaway (Fire Chief, Ret.) from Situational Awareness Matters (SAMatters.com). The courses focused on critical decision-making, situational awareness, and safety protocols under high-stress conditions on the fireground that can help prevent mistakes and line of duty deaths (LODDs).

Huge thanks to:
* Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen's Association for coordinating this invaluable opportunity
* Ladies Auxiliary to the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association (LA-SMVFA) for funding the training
* Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department for hosting us in their facility

Continuous learning saves lives! Investing in safety today means a safer community tomorrow!

Ridge VFD Wins at North Beach VFD's Centennial Parade

On Saturday, August 8, members of Ridge VFD took Engine 41 to North Beach, to take part in North Beach VFD's (NBVFD) Centennial Parade and Muster, held as part of NBVFD's 100th Anniversary festivities. Departments from Calvert, Anne Arundel, Charles, St. Mary’s, and Prince George's Counties joined the parade, with a mix of modern (in use) and antique fire and EMS apparatus.

A dedicated group of Ridge VFD members spent many hours preparing Engine 41 for the event. Their efforts were rewarded with a Best Overall (Modern) Engine Company award! Despite the hot weather, the streets of North Beach were filled with spectators cheering and waving.

Ridge VFD congratulates North Beach VFD on its 100 years of dedicated service and appreciates the opportunity to participate in the parade.
