Saying no has never come naturally to me.

Part of it is because I genuinely want to help people.

The other part? I’m a complete control freak. 😂

If I’m being honest, I often convince myself that it will be easier, faster, or better if I just do it myself.

So I say yes.

Yes to the extra project.
Yes to the committee.
Yes to the volunteer opportunity.
Yes to helping one more person.

Until one day I look around and realize I’ve said yes to so many things that there’s no room left for the things that matter most.

Learning to say no has been one of the hardest lessons of my adult life.

Not because I don’t care.
Not because I don’t want to help.
But because I’ve finally learned that capacity is real.

You can’t be all things to all people.

At some point, every one of us has to decide what our priorities are and protect them.

Sometimes that means not taking on another project at work.

Sometimes it means not volunteering to be class mom.

Sometimes it means turning down a good opportunity so you have the energy for a great one.

The truth is, every time you say yes to something, you’re saying no to something else.

Make sure you’re saying yes to the things that align with your values, your goals, and the life you’re trying to build.

Because protecting your time isn’t selfish.

It’s necessary.

One of the best decisions you can make, is who to surround yourself with the right people.

And I don’t just mean kind people.

I mean people you aspire to be like.

People who are doing what you do—but doing it better.

People who understand the challenges, frustrations, and victories that come with entrepreneurship.

People who can share advice, offer encouragement, and swap war stories when things don’t go as planned.

The truth is, growth rarely happens in isolation.

When you’re surrounded by people who challenge you, inspire you, and push you to think bigger, you naturally start raising your own standards.

That’s why I’m involved in industry associations, my local Chamber of Commerce, and a women’s entrepreneurship group.

Each one brings different perspectives, different experiences, and different opportunities to learn.

And the best part?

The relationship goes both ways.

Sometimes you’re the one asking for advice.

Sometimes you’re the one giving it.

Find your people.

The ones who celebrate your wins, understand your struggles, challenge your thinking, and inspire you to become a better version of yourself.

Because who you surround yourself with matters more than you think.

Have you ever noticed that life rarely hands you one challenge at a time?

Instead, it seems to pile everything on at once.

Just when you think you’ve handled one thing, another pops up… and another… and another.

Before you know it, you’re lying awake at night wondering how you’re supposed to keep all the balls in the air.

Some seasons of life feel heavier than others. Not because of one big thing, but because life keeps asking more of you before you’ve had a chance to recover from the last thing.

That’s when the feeling of being overwhelmed sneaks in.

When I start feeling overwhelmed, these are a few things that help:

✅ Write everything down.
Trying to keep it all in your head only creates more stress.

✅ Focus on the next thing, not everything.
You don’t need to solve next month today. Just take the next step.

✅ Separate urgent from important.
Not everything requires your attention right this second.

✅ Ask for help.
You don’t get bonus points for doing everything yourself.

✅ Give yourself grace.
You are navigating things that weren’t on your calendar, budget, or vision board.

Most importantly, remember this:

You don’t have to carry the weight of every problem all at once.

Handle what you can today. Tomorrow will take care of itself when it gets here and if you’re feeling overwhelmed right now, know you’re not alone. ❤️

Last week, my friend and math teacher extraordinaire, Melanie Lekaj , invited me to speak with the 8th grade students at Walter T. Bergen Middle School in Bloomingdale, NJ.

One of the biggest things I wanted them to understand is that it’s okay if you don’t know what you want to do with your life yet.

Truthfully, even if you think you know, there’s a good chance your path will change along the way.

When I was their age, I wanted to be a veterinarian. I never could have predicted the career I’ve built, the businesses I’ve helped grow, the people I’ve met, or the opportunities that would come my way.

We talked about my career journey, the twists and turns that got me here, and why learning to adapt is one of the most valuable skills you can develop.

Life has a funny way of throwing curveballs when you least expect them. Sometimes those challenges feel frustrating in the moment, but often they’re actually opportunities in disguise.

To the students heading off to high school: give yourself permission to grow, change your mind, explore new interests, and take chances.

You don’t need to have your whole future figured out today.

Thank you, Melanie, and Walter T. Bergen School for the opportunity. Wishing all of these students the very best as they begin this exciting next chapter.

A little reminder for you… and for me too.

As entrepreneurs, moms, leaders, and caregivers, we’re constantly taking care of everyone else.

The business.
The family.
The appointments.
The deadlines.
The never-ending to-do list.

And somewhere along the way, we forget to make time for ourselves.

That’s where burnout begins.

This weekend, I traded productivity for pearls and attended a Bridgerton-style tea at a friend’s house. Thank you for having me! ☕️🌸

For a few hours, there were no emails to answer, no problems to solve, and no errands to run.

Just laughter, friendship, and the simple joy of being present.

And you know what?

Everything was still there waiting for me when I got home.

We often treat self-care like a reward we have to earn after we’ve done everything else. But the truth is, taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s necessary.

You can’t pour from an empty cup.

So consider this your reminder:

Schedule the coffee date.
Take the girls’ night.
Read the book.
Attend the tea party.

Whatever fills your cup, make time for it.

Because life isn’t just about building a business or checking off tasks.

It’s also about creating memories and enjoying the people who make life beautiful. ❤️

One of the biggest mistakes I see entrepreneurs make is trying to figure everything out on their own.

The truth?

The most successful business owners I know have mentors.

And not just one.

Some mentors are in your industry. They understand the day-to-day challenges, the trends, the mistakes to avoid, and the opportunities you might not see.

But some of the most valuable mentors you’ll ever have come from completely different industries.

That’s where Orly comes in.

When I moved to this area nearly 17 years ago, it felt like I saw the same face on every real estate sign.

“Only Orly.”

She was a local celebrity.

At the time, I worked for the corporate headquarters of the real estate company she worked for and eventually got to know her. Over the years, what started as a professional connection grew into something much more meaningful: a friendship and a mentorship.

Now, let’s be honest…

At first, Orly intimidated me.

She was always impeccably dressed, incredibly confident, involved in everything, and completely unfazed by situations that would make most people panic.

To this day, we joke that if I know Orly will be at a meeting, I put a little more effort into getting dressed. 😂

But what I’ve learned over the years is that behind every strong, successful woman is usually an even stronger heart.

Through business challenges, personal struggles, celebrations, and milestones, Orly has always shown up.

Sometimes it was advice.

Sometimes it was encouragement.

Sometimes it was a comment on a social media post, a supportive conversation, or even brownies showing up when they were needed most.

The greatest mentors don’t just teach you how to succeed.

They help you believe you belong in the room.

As entrepreneurs, we spend so much time looking for customers that we sometimes forget to look for teachers.

The people who challenge us, encourage us, and help us see possibilities we may not see in ourselves.

I’ve been fortunate to have mentors both inside and outside my industry, and every one of them has helped shape who I am as a business owner, leader, and person.

This week, Orly celebrated 40 years in real estate, and while this photo may be with a cardboard cutout (because she’s can’t be everywhere ell at once!), the impact she’s had on my life is very real.

I am incredibly grateful to call her both a mentor and a friend. ❤️

Yesterday I stopped at my favorite luncheonette.

It’s my Cheers.

The kind of place where they know my name, know my order, and ask about my family.

This morning was one of those days. You know the kind…

Get three kids dressed and fed.
Get everyone on the bus.
Realize someone left their Chromebook.
Rush to a speaking engagement.
Run to the next event.
Realize somewhere in the middle of all that… you forgot to eat breakfast.

By the time my first event was over, I was already tired, hungry, and honestly a little worn out.

I called ahead with my usual order and casually mentioned that I was tired and completely coffee-ed out.

When I arrived, they handed me my food…

and a second fountain soda.

Just because.

Because they know I love fountain soda.
Because they knew I was having a long day and needed more caffeine.
Because they care.

Now, I know some people might think, “It’s just a soda.”

But it wasn’t about the soda.

It was about being seen.

It was also a reminder of why supporting local businesses matters so much.

When you support local businesses, you’re not just making a transaction. You’re building relationships.

You’re supporting people who genuinely care about their customers and their community.

It’s the same reason I love being a local business owner.

Because business has never been just about products or services.

It’s about people.

And yesterday, a simple extra soda reminded me just how lucky I am to be part of a community filled with people who show up for one another.

Support local. Not because it’s trendy, but because relationships matter. ❤️

Yesterday, I was at my local library printing a poster for my business. I’m a huge fan of our library and I’ve gotten to know many of the employees.

As I was picking up my poster, one of the staff members said something I’ll never forget.

She told me she had recently seen one of our company trucks driving through town and felt a sense of pride for me.

Pride.

Think about that for a second.

Not a family member.
Not a close friend.
Not someone who works for me.

It was someone from my community who has watched my journey from the sidelines and was genuinely happy to see my business growing.

It was such a simple comment, but it completely made my day.

We often focus on the big milestones, the numbers, the goals we haven’t reached yet, but sometimes the greatest reminder to keep going comes from the people you least expect.

So keep showing up.
Keep working.
Keep building.

You never know who you’re inspiring along the way.

And if someone has inspired you, encouraged you, or made you proud…

Tell them.

It might be exactly what they need to hear today. ❤️

Last week, I had the opportunity to participate in Career Day at and speak to a class of fourth graders about entrepreneurship, running a business, and what a typical day looks like as a business owner.

The presentation was fun.

The Q&A session? Absolutely hysterical. 😂

The students asked me everything from:
➡️ How old are you?
➡️ How many kids do you have?
➡️ What’s the biggest event you’ve ever done?
➡️ What kind of insurance do you have?

Apparently no topic was off limits.

But honestly, that’s what made it so great.

I love that schools create opportunities like this. Career Day exposes students to paths they may never have considered. Not every child grows up knowing a business owner, entrepreneur, tradesperson, engineer, or community leader.

Sometimes all it takes is one conversation to plant a seed.

A seed that says:
💡 “I could do that someday.”

Whether they become entrepreneurs, teachers, doctors, artists, or something that doesn’t even exist yet, exposing kids to different careers helps them see possibilities they may not have imagined before.

And if nothing else, I learned that fourth graders are basically tiny investigative reporters. 😂

Thank you to Farley Elementary for helping students explore all the possibilities that their futures can hold.

Don’t say no because it feels hard.

Don’t say no because you have never done it before.

Don’t say no because it is outside your comfort zone.

That uncomfortable feeling? Sometimes that is growth knocking.

Some of the best opportunities in my life came from saying yes before I felt ready. Now, I make it a habit.

The new role.
The big opportunity.
The thing that made me think, “Can I actually do this?”

Growth rarely happens where it feels safe.

Learn the difference between a red flag and a challenge.

One drains you.

The other changes you.

Bet on yourself a little more often. You might surprise yourself.
