Someone once said if you take care of someone with dementia you lose them more and more everyday. When they get the diagnosis, when they go through different stages, when they need treatment and when they pass away. This is called "ambiguous loss".
As the brain slowly dies, they change physically and eventually forget who their loved ones are. They could end up lying in bed, not moving and not eating or drinking.
There will be people who will scroll past this post because Dementia has not touched them. They may not know what it's like to have a loved one who has battled or is still battling dementia.
To raise awareness of this cruel disease, I would like my friends to put this on their page today.
Hold your finger on the post to copy and paste to your timeline.
A special thank you to anyone willing to put this on their timeline for Dementia Awareness Week!

As the crisp air rolls in an the leaves begin to turn, fall invites us to slow down and sip something warm, and enjoy life's simple beauty. But we forget that whatever season older adults have a higher risk of falls- especially at home, were most accidents happen. Here are some fee thoughtful steps that we can take and make for the safety of our out home.

Clear the Pathways
Clutter loves to gather in hallways and around favorite chair. Loose shoes, stacked magazine, or even a stray pet toy can become a trip hazard. Take a few minutes to talk through your home and make sure each path is wide and clear. Think of it a making room for peace and mind.

Light the Way
as days get shorter, lighting becomes eve more important. Add brighter bults in areas like stairs, hallways and entryways. A small night light in the bathroom or along the path to the kitchen can make all the difference during late- night trips.

Secure Rugs and Cords
Rugs ad warmth- but unsecured once can slip. use non-skid pads or double sided rug tape to keep them firmly in place. tuck away any cords or wires that cross the walking areas.

Choose Support, not Strain
Install grab bars in bathroom near the toilet and in the shower. handrails on both sides of the stairs can also offer extra confidence. if balance feels uncertain, use a sturdy cane or walker, its not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of wisdom.

Dress for Stability
Comfort is key. but so is support. Choose shoes with non- slip soles and avoid walking in socks on smooth floors. A cozy fair of house shoes with good grip keeps you both warm and grounded,

Keep Moving
Balance improves when you stay active. Gentle exercise like stretching. walking or chair yoga can strengthen legs and core muscle- your natural defense against falls.

ree

Keep a phone or alert device close by in case you need help. let family or neighbors know to check-in in occasionally, especially if you live alone.

This fall, lets make safety part of the season. Enjoy your walks, your cozy afternoon and your pies- without worry. your home can be both peaceful and protective when you take simple steps now.

Stay steady, stay safe and keep enjoying the beauty of every fall, every season that come your way.

Could It Be Time? Signs Your Loved Ones Might Need a Little Extra Care

Life’s journey often brings us full circle. The hands that once guided us—steady and strong—may now tremble as they reach for support. As we watch our parents age, subtle signs may whisper to us, asking us to pause and consider:

Are they safe?
Are they happy?
Are they thriving?

Here are some questions to ask yourself as you reflect on your loved ones' well-being:

1. Are daily tasks becoming a struggle?

Is the morning routine taking longer? Are meals skipped because cooking feels overwhelming? Assisted living can offer gentle help, ensuring your parent feels cared for without losing independence.

2. Are they falling more often, or do they seem unsteady?

A small stumble can be a big warning. Have you noticed bruises or hesitance in their step? A secure environment, where help is just a moment away, could bring peace of mind for you and safety for them.

3. Are their health needs outpacing your ability to help?

Managing medications, doctor’s visits, and treatments for chronic conditions can be daunting. If their care feels like a balancing act, it might be time to lean on the expertise of professionals.

4. Does their home feel like a shadow of their former life?

Are there bills piling up unopened? Are dusty surfaces replacing their once-pristine home? A cluttered space can signify a mind seeking clarity and support.

5. Do you see loneliness in their eyes?

Has their laughter grown quieter? Are phone calls and visits their only source of connection? Imagine a space where every day brings opportunities to share stories, play games, and form new friendships.

6. Have they begun to forget?

Keys misplaced, dates forgotten, familiar faces briefly unfamiliar—these moments can be subtle yet significant. What if there were someone always nearby to help fill in the gaps?

7. Are you feeling overwhelmed?

Your love and dedication are boundless, but your energy may not be. It’s okay to ask for help. Letting professionals share the load doesn’t mean you care less; it means you care wisely.

A Gentle Invitation
If any of these questions resonate, take a moment to reflect. Long-term care isn’t about giving up; it’s about opening doors—to safety, comfort, community, and peace of mind.

At Golden Star Home, we welcome families into a warm and supportive environment where care feels like love and life feels like home.

Reach out today—because your loved ones deserve nothing less.

Embracing the journey of life means accepting the inevitability of change and finding beauty in both endings and beginnings. Whether it be the closure of a relationship, a career, or a life phase, the sunset teaches us to appreciate what has been and find peace in moving forward. But just as the sun sets, it also rises, bringing a new day full of endless possibilities. The sunrise reminds us to let go of the past and embrace the present, with hope and gratitude for the future. Each sunset and sunrise is a reminder to embrace the journey of life, with all its ups and downs, and make the most of every moment.
