It's been awhile that I have had anything worth posting, but today I did some math for what I do to wrap my hives, at a fraction of the cost of other bee wraps, it cost me $7.00 dollars to do this method. Simple R 13 batt insulation just the perfect length at 93 inches long to around the hive. Then I use 15 inch shrink wrap that you can get at wally world. Simple and effective, I've personally have done this the past 2 winters with a 95%success rate of survival. I do wait until the very last moment when I know temps are going to below zero. You will notice i use dense foam on top as well, which does add to the cost. But I've used these peices of foam over 10 years and the insulation can be rolled up tight and stored in the spring. With that being said, 7.00 vrs 40.00 per hive its a no brainer.
