Wasps are showing up in bigger numbers across metro Detroit this fall — and pest experts say some of the nests forming in residential yards are large enough to pose a serious danger.

🦟☀️ Late Summer = Mosquito Season! ☀️

Just when you’re trying to squeeze in those last backyard BBQs, evening walks, and bonfires… the mosquitoes show up like they own the place. 😂

A few late-summer mosquito facts:

🌧️ Warm weather + rain = perfect breeding conditions
💧 Even a tiny amount of standing water can become a mosquito nursery
🩸 Only female mosquitoes bite
🌅 Many species are especially active around dawn and dusk
🍂 Cooler fall weather usually slows them down—but they don’t always disappear right away
🏡 Flowerpots, buckets, gutters, toys, and birdbaths can all collect enough water for mosquitoes to breed

So before you say goodbye to summer, remember:

You may be done with summer… but the mosquitoes aren’t done with you. 😂🦟

Most people in Michigan don’t realize this… but we DO have termites.

Specifically, Eastern Subterranean Termites — and they cause millions of dollars in damage every year because they work silently behind the scenes.

Picture #1:
These are live subterranean termites feeding inside one of our Sentricon bait stations. This is exactly what we WANT to see during monitoring. The termites find the station before they find more of your home.

Picture #2:
Those “mud tubes” hanging from the ceiling are one of the biggest warning signs of termite activity. Subterranean termites build these tubes to travel while staying protected from open air and dehydration.

Here’s the scary part:
Termites often cause damage for YEARS before homeowners notice them. By the time you see damage, the colony may already be well established.

Common signs of termites in Michigan:
• Mud tubes on walls, ceilings, foundations, or joists
• Soft or hollow sounding wood
• Bubbling or damaged paint
• Swarming termites in spring
• Doors/windows suddenly sticking
• Unexplained wood damage

And no — termites are NOT just a “southern state” problem. We see them right here in Metro Detroit and Downriver every year.

If you’re buying a home, noticing suspicious damage, or just want peace of mind, it’s better to catch termite activity early before repairs become expensive.
