Join us for the Business Leadership Fund’s 23rd Annual Politic’n and Pig Pick’n, an evening that brings together our region’s elected officials and members of the business community for great food, meaningful conversation, and connection.

When: Thursday, October 22, 2026 | 5:00–7:00 p.m.
Where: Shenandoah Club
Cost: $70 per person

The Business Leadership Fund supports a pro-business, pro-economic development, and pro-regionalism platform. Established in 1998 as a political action committee, the fund works to strengthen the voice of the region’s business community in the public policy arena.

The Roanoke Regional Chamber administers the fund.

We are incredibly proud of Will for placing in the Top 10 at the National Civics Bee Championship in Washington, D.C., this past Wednesday!

Competing alongside 52 finalists representing all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and American Samoa, Will showcased his knowledge of civics, critical thinking, and ideas for strengthening his community on a national stage.

The evening brought together some of the nation’s brightest young minds to celebrate civic engagement, leadership, and the power of young people to make a difference. Through thought-provoking questions and live competition, these students demonstrated not only their understanding of how government works, but also their commitment to identifying challenges and developing solutions that can positively impact their communities.

Congratulations to Will on this incredible accomplishment! We are proud to see local talent representing our community on the national stage and inspiring the next generation of engaged citizens. 👏

🌟AMBASSADOR SPOTLIGHT🌟

Meet Matt Ely!

Matt is a Certified Financial Planner and Certified Exit Planning Advisor at Ameriprise Financial. He has been a financial advisor for 16 years. He loves financial planning because is able to help people align their sense of purpose about their lives with the decisions they make about their money. By helping people to make conscious, deliberate decisions about their money, he knows that the impact extends beyond the conversations they have with the people in his clients’ lives. He is proud of his ability to listen to his client’s needs and develop solutions for them.

He chose to get involved with the Roanoke Regional Chamber because the strength of our businesses is the strength of our community. As he is able to help Chamber members grow their businesses, we can all work together to strengthen our community.

He is also a musician (He plays the euphonium and trumpet) and a Certified Presenter for I Said This, You Heard That. He enjoys sharing the joy of music and helping people to understand their and others’ unique temperament so that they can connect more deeply and avoid miscommunications.

Investing in leadership means investing in the future of our region! 🌟

Last week, Oct. 7–9, Eric Sichau, President and CEO, represented the Roanoke Regional Chamber in Washington, D.C., through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Organization Management (IOM), a professional development program dedicated to strengthening chamber and association leaders.

Following graduation from IOM’s Southeast Site in June, Eric was appointed to the Curriculum Committee and the Northeast Site Board of Regents, further contributing to the development and growth of the chamber industry nationwide.

The experience brought together exceptional leaders from across the country to exchange ideas, build meaningful relationships, and explore new ways to strengthen the organizations and communities they serve.

We’re proud to see Eric contributing to the future of the chamber industry while bringing fresh perspectives and renewed energy back to our work here in Virginia’s Blue Ridge. Through continued learning, collaboration, and initiatives like our IMPACT Campaign, we remain committed to helping our members thrive and strengthening our regional business community.
