Could you imagine how many other "Jeff Bezos" that got aborted or killed. Because Jacklyn, a 17 year old believes in Life and education, God grants her what her heart desires. Jeff Bezos, the prodigal son.
Before Amazon became a $2 trillion company, it was just an idea—and Jeff Bezos had something better than venture capital: his mom.
Jacklyn Bezos had Jeff at 17, stayed in school despite pressure to drop out, and supported them both on $190 a month. At night school, she brought “two duffel bags—one packed with textbooks and the other with diapers, bottles, and toys.”
She later married Mike Bezos, a Cuban immigrant who adopted Jeff and raised him. Jeff’s biological father, Ted Jorgensen, lost contact and didn’t learn of his son's success until 2012. “I wasn’t a good father or a good husband,” he later admitted.
In 1994, Jeff quit Wall Street to build an online bookstore. While driving to Seattle with MacKenzie Scott, he drafted Amazon’s plan. His parents invested $245,573. Jeff recalled, “The first initial start-up capital for Amazon.com came primarily from my parents... a large fraction of their life savings.” He warned them there was a “70% chance they’d lose everything.” Instead, their early stake grew into billions.
In 2017, Bezos posted: “I won the lottery with my mom. Thanks for literally everything.” In 2022, he added: “Mom, I have no idea how you did what you did. You kept us both safe inside your heart.”
Sometimes, the best investors aren’t venture capitalists—they’re parents who believe, no matter the odds.
