40 denaturalization cases were just filed. But does that mean 40 people have already lost their U.S. citizenship?

The Justice Department says it filed denaturalization actions against 40 individuals in federal courts. But a filing is not the same as an automatic loss of citizenship.

These cases involve allegations that naturalization may have been obtained illegally or through concealment or misrepresentation, and the cases must go through the legal process.
