Some threats can’t get in unless you invite them.

In Part 3, Mike finds a helpful-looking calendar app asking for access to his email, contacts, files and calendar. What’s the worst that could happen?

As Nick quickly points out: NEVER say that in a horror movie. 😱

Malicious or compromised apps can use excessive permissions to access company information - sometimes without ever needing your password.

Before clicking 𝘈𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸, take a closer look at what the app is requesting. If the permissions don’t make sense, the app is unfamiliar or something feels off, check with IT first.

Because when it comes to app permissions, don’t invite the cyber vampires in. 🧛♂️💻

📲 October Tech Tips: Stuck in a Horror Movie — Part 2 😱

The haunting continues … and this time, it’s coming from Mike’s phone.

𝘋𝘐𝘕𝘎. 𝘋𝘐𝘕𝘎. 𝘋𝘐𝘕𝘎.

In Part 2, Mike and Nick face MFA fatigue, also known as push bombing - when attackers repeatedly send authentication requests hoping you’ll eventually hit “Approve” just to make them stop.

If you receive an MFA request you didn’t initiate, don’t ignore the warning signs: deny it, report it and contact your IT team.

Because sometimes the notification that won’t die is more than just annoying. 👻

And remember: not every ding is a cyberattack. Sometimes it’s just the doorbell. 😂

💙 Info Advantage was proud to once again support 𝗡𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿!

This past Saturday, Linda and Mitch joined community members for this year’s walk, helping raise awareness, foster hope and show support for those impacted by mental health challenges.

We were also happy to contribute a Star Wars drone to the event’s basket raffle — adding a little fun while supporting an important cause. 🌟

We’re grateful for the opportunity to stand with NAMI Rochester and everyone working to build a more supportive, understanding and compassionate community.

🎃 October Tech Tips: Stuck in a Horror Movie — Part 1 👻

It’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and Mike and Nick have somehow found themselves trapped inside an ’80s horror movie.

First up: The Thing in the Inbox. 📧

From fake executive requests and invoice fraud to QR phishing, some of the scariest threats don’t come with creepy music or flickering lights - they show up looking like a perfectly normal message.

Watch Part 1 to see why you should always verify unusual requests, double-check payment changes and think before scanning that QR code.

And yes … somehow the gift card scam is back. Again. 😂

🔐 Teamwork put to the test! 🔐

Last week, the Info Advantage team traded computers for clues during a team-building afternoon at 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗔 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺!

We split into two teams, with one taking on 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝗛𝗲𝗶𝘀𝘁 🎰 and the other braving 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗱𝘆’𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗹𝗲 👻. Both teams managed to escape … although one team may still have a few questions about how the other pulled it off. 😂

It was a great afternoon filled with teamwork, problem-solving, plenty of laughs and a little friendly competition.

Thanks to Locked A Rochester for a fun team-building experience! We’re already looking forward to the next one. 🔎🔐

This October, Tech Tips is getting a horror-movie makeover for Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Nick and Mike are taking on the threats hiding in the shadows — from suspicious messages and risky clicks to the cyber dangers you might never see coming.

🐩💙 Today would have been 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗸’𝘀 𝟭𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗱𝗮𝘆 - the first one we’re celebrating without our favorite Brand Ambassador by our side.
For so many years, Captain was more than just an office dog. He was part of the Info Advantage family. He starred in our Tech Tips, dressed up for just about every occasion we could come up with, attended meetings (whether invited or not), patiently tolerated our ideas, and always knew exactly when a camera was on him.
He brought a little extra joy, laughter and personality to our office simply by being here.

🍂🐾 Hello, fall!

The first day of fall calls for some fresh air, a walk and, of course, a few members of the IA Poodle Squad leading the way!

Jacob and Linda took advantage of the fall weather with three of our four-legged coworkers — although we’re pretty sure the dogs considered this less of a walk and more of an important off-site meeting. 🐶🍁

Here’s to cooler days, colorful leaves and plenty more Poodle Squad adventures this season!
