✈️🌟Instructor Spotlight: Charlie

Meet Charlie, one of our flight instructors, whose aviation story started at home. His parents’ house was right under one of the runways at Buffalo Niagara International, and he’s the only pilot in his family. He’s been instructing for a year and a half while still working full time as a bookkeeper. What he loves most about instructing is giving people who have never flown a brand new perspective, and his favorite milestone to watch is a student’s first solo.

Charlie holds his commercial certificate for single engine land and sea, along with his instrument rating and CFI. Key West is the best destination he’s flown to so far, and Rome is at the top of his bucket list. He’s a sunset flight fan who prefers maneuvers over pattern work, and he’ll happily tell you that hot dogs are not sandwiches. Our Piper Cherokee is his favorite plane he’s flown, and his advice for students who are feeling discouraged is simple: remember that flying is enjoyable and fun.

Down the road, Charlie hopes to fly for a corporate flight department or an airline. His biggest lesson learned was how much study time at home flight training takes, and his motto for students and fellow pilots alike is to take joy in the aviation journey. We’re glad to have Charlie on our team and thankful for the perspective he brings to every flight.

Our friends at the Aero Club of Buffalo, the oldest aero club in America, are hosting their October General Body Meeting, and it's a great chance to get out and meet others in the Western New York aviation community.

This month's featured presentation is on the Bell X-22, a piece of WNY aviation history built right here in Wheatfield, NY, presented by retired Bell Propulsion Engineer Erasmo Pinero.
