We’ve seen these “oddly satisfying” videos pop up everywhere, but this one caught our eye.

Notice how smooth and precise the cut is? As soon as the cutting tool hits the metal, the right shape takes form and looks shiny and pristine. This is because the tool is sharp and the brass is so soft. Most cutting tools have that sharp cut at the beginning of their lifecycle, but tend to dull down over time.

PVD coating can improve your cut by enhancing the lubricity and hardness of your cutting tools, allowing them to cut through materials with greater ease, making sharper, cleaner cuts. Coated tools will also last longer, so you’ll see these cleaner cuts for more machine cycles.

This video shows you how the famous LEGO is made. Note the molds that form the pieces; these are called plastic injection molds.

Plastic injection molds form and eject molten plastics to produce parts like LEGOs, pens, and tool handles. They reduce waste because they form plastic parts instead of cutting parts out of plastic. However, once they’ve worn, manufacturers usually have to rework and re-polish the mold's surface so that it performs like a new mold.

Instead of spending capital on new molds or time on reworking old molds, many manufacturers are looking for ways to extend the life and performance of their current molds. PVD coatings, one of our specialties, can extend the life of these molds and reduce friction/increase lubricity so the pieces pop out easily just like you see in this video.
