For those following the story of yet another single mother being abused in the Winnebago County family court system:
The mother I told you about was recently hospitalized in the heat of her ongoing custody battle, and mental abuse by her ex-husband and his father were documented. (Not to mention physical abuse by her ex, including an alleged r**e, cigarette burns, etc.). Additionally, a neighbor reported to police that her ex's father was seen breaking into her home.
It was at this time that I first contacted our "hero," Winnebago County State's Attorney Joe Bruscato, to urge him to file charges. However, the responding officer was doubtful that the man would physically be arrested, given his age. Are you fu***ng kidding me? The guy was young enough to kick down a door, and throw the house into disarray, just so he could take pictures of the mess to try to use against his former daughter-in-law in court--the mother of his beloved grandchildren.
Of course, he was too fu***ng ignorant to realize that illegally-obtained evidence is not admissible. But when you have tons of money (he's one of those pension double-dippers that we know all-too-well here in Illinois), you rely less on brains. But still, money is all one needs for "justice," it seems. Is it too idealistic to believe that you can prevail if you have only the truth on your side, instead of money? The answer is "yes," if you live in Winnebago County.
Joe Bruscato, not surprisingly, did nothing. I didn't even get the courtesy of a response to explain why, despite the mutually-respectful relationship we'd established when I was a local journalist. Adding insult to injury, the police report later stated the complainant didn't want anything done about the break-in (she emphatically denies this assertion). I find it awfully hard to believe that she'd go through the trouble of reporting the break-in, but not want anyone arrested for it. And it's not that she was afraid.
I find it far-more likely that a bitter, rich old man could easily influence a relatively young officer of the law to amend his report. Uniformed cops don't really make that much money. But the old man has plenty of it. And instead of enjoying his twilight years somewhere nicer than Rockford, he'd rather just f**k with the mother of his grandchildren, who he calls a "filthy alien" because she's an immigrant--as if the rest of us didn't come from somewhere else, Native Americans excluded. But I'm sure he hates them, too.
Tonight at about 11 p.m., a sheriff's deputy arrived at her door with a warrant for her arrest--for allegedly missing a court date she knew nothing about. Her next court date was believed to be Sept. 10. We were discussing that court date just prior to her arrest, in fact.
Mind you, tomorrow she was to have visitation with her daughters who, until very recently, had been prevented by their father and grandfather from seeing their mom since Mother's Day (they were taken away the day after, as you'll recall).
A judge later ruled they had no right to deny visitation, and ordered two visits per week.
A few minutes ago, I received a call from her in jail. It turns out it wasn't a missed court date, as she was told when being arrested. The story now is that she didn't make a child-support payment to the father of her oldest daughter. We're talking about a guy who date-r**ed her 18 years ago, but never raised their daughter for a day, and in fact denied she was his daughter for many years. This is the Winnebago County family court system.
And she did make the payment on time, and has receipts, including Certified Mail, to prove it. But she still has to spend a night in jail. You're my hero, Joe. You should be very fu***ng proud of yourself, sir.
Now let me tell you a little about the single mother in question. She's not the drain-on-society you've come to expect in Rockford, whose government gets paid to take upon us the dregs of those deemed not suitable for Chicago. She works as a health care professional. She's not a doctor or anything, so she's not loaded, but she simply loves her work. She came to America from Poland in her high school years as a refugee during the the Solidarity movement, and Ronald Reagan is among her greatest heroes, my conservative friends. And she is literally Polish royalty, though I've only known her as a hard-working, dedicated mother, and the best friend I've ever known.
Where will the Tea Partiers and other conservatives be in the morning? Bashing liberals, or standing in line for the privilege to be the one who selflessly posts her $520 bail, for which you will be reimbursed? God bless America. And God damn those who would turn this nation's promise into a complete abortion.
This story is part of my ongoing documentary project, and here's your chance to be an American hero.
