Your yiayia and pappou got on a boat with a couple of suitcases and a language nobody around them spoke. They built a whole life an ocean away — Greek church on Sundays, name days, the diner, the arguments at the dinner table — so that you could have more.
Generations later, you might not live in Greece. You might not even speak it as well as you wish you did (we know the guilt). None of that makes you any less Greek. It's in your name, your family's table, the way you stand a little taller when someone asks where you're really from.
Here's what a lot of people don't realize: that heritage isn't only sentimental. For many of us, it's a legal right that crossed the ocean with our family — the right to Greek, and EU, citizenship by descent.
You don't have to do anything with it. But if you've ever wondered whether you qualify, our eligibility questionnaire is free and takes a few minutes. Link in bio.
