Barbara Wally is a conflict resolution consultant who focuses her practice on negotiation coaching and mediation. Barbara works with individuals and businesses to help them design and achieve their goals through improved negotiation and communication strategies. A Georgetown Law graduate and member of the New York and District of Columbia bars, Barbara started her career practicing with a boutique

environmental firm. She then spent seven years working with Jonathan Marks, one of the country’s senior alternative dispute resolution practitioners, focusing on settling complex, high-stakes disputes and coaching parties through negotiations. She has extensive experience helping individuals maximize financial outcomes through consistent and persistent coaching. Barbara has lived in France, Italy and Switzerland and speaks fluent French and Italian. Her prior speaking engagements include testimony before the United States House Committee on Resources on proposed legislation.

It is great that so much effort is being put into training women to negotiate their salaries and I would never fault it. But employers need training too, because women who negotiate their salaries are viewed more negatively than men who do the same. We need to address this as we try to reach pay parity.

Through pay-negotiation workshops and partnerships with more than 100 companies, the city is trying to help female workers match the salaries of male counterparts.
