Spent my Saturday making some poetic magic with the Twinbrook Library Teen Advisory Board! From deep and philosophical musings of life to silly little penguin stories, we had the best time transforming prose into new poems.

Thanks for having me MCPL! I'll be counting down the days to our next poetic adventure!

"Wild America", a poem written by Maria Vargas.

Maria's voice has a way of settling deep under my skin and trickling through my bloodstream. An incredible poet and storyteller, I return to her work time and time again. I hope you will as well.

🌸april showers bring may flowers, and june brings the promise of warmth and community🌼

In June, we welcome longer days as summer makes her grand entrance. We celebrate Pride Month. We celebrate Loving Day. We celebrate Juneteenth. We recognize World Refugee Day. And naturally, at Beyond the Page, we can't stop thinking about community.

This month, write a poem that starts with the line, "My people are...."

As you write, reflect on
🌷Who comes to mind when you think of 'my people'?
🐚What do you cherish most about your community?
🦋What do you wish more people understood about your community?

📬Submit your finished poem through the link in our bio to be considered for publishing in our online collection, in our July newsletter, and on social media.
