🌸april showers bring may flowers, and june brings the promise of warmth and community🌼

In June, we welcome longer days as summer makes her grand entrance. We celebrate Pride Month. We celebrate Loving Day. We celebrate Juneteenth. We recognize World Refugee Day. And naturally, at Beyond the Page, we can't stop thinking about community.

This month, write a poem that starts with the line, "My people are...."

As you write, reflect on
🌷Who comes to mind when you think of 'my people'?
🐚What do you cherish most about your community?
🦋What do you wish more people understood about your community?

📬Submit your finished poem through the link in our bio to be considered for publishing in our online collection, in our July newsletter, and on social media.

Poetry found its way into so many corners of Main Street this April 💛 From workshops and open mics to shared meals and community conversations, we loved seeing members, artists, and neighbors come together to write, listen, perform, and connect through poetry.

To continue celebrating the creativity and voices in our community, we’re partnering with Beyond the Page to create an online poetry publication featuring original work from community members.

Poem submissions are open through 5/31/26: https://www.beyondthepagewriting.com/main-street-poetry-submissions

Mothers are alchemists, drawing in threads of the hurt and hardship they've endured and somehow weaving soft, warm, comforting blankets. To calm the seas takes not softness, but more power than the seas themself contain.

How often do the mothers in our lives give all they have to their children and families and communities, saving so little for themselves? Our hope for all mothers, today and every day, is that they find the same love and worthiness and magic inside of themselves that they give so freely to others.

Every single day, mothers are waking up and creating safety and magic for their children against all odds. From standing strong on the frontlines to softening their voices at bedtime, mothers are carrying the world.

April was full of poetry at Main Street ✨ Throughout the month, our community came together to write, share, perform, and celebrate creativity through a series of poetry-centered events including a Poetry Workshop with Molly Cullen from Beyond the Page, our Community Poetry Slam, Poetry Food for Thought, and a Poetry Mama Peace meet-up. Main Street members also took the mic at a poetry open mic hosted by Molly Cullen and Montgomery County Public Libraries at Twinbrook Library 🎤

Now, we’re excited to keep the momentum going! In collaboration with Beyond the Page, we’re inviting community members to submit original poems for our upcoming online publication. Submissions are open through 5/31/26. We can’t wait to read your work 💛 https://www.beyondthepagewriting.com/main-street-poetry-submissions

🌻 What does silence offer in the right moment?
🌻 What is the cost of silence in the wrong moment?
🌻 When does the world feel the most silent?
