Auctioneer Brad McGovern Returns Home
New Waterford, Ohio- Brad McGovern and his wife India are moving back to Columbiana County after spending nearly two years in both Spencerville and Wooster, Ohio. During his time away, Brad worked with multiple auction companies in the state of Ohio and the U.S which inspired him to come back home to begin his own business helping other auctioneers and conducting benefit auctions.
Brad grew up in Columbiana County, Ohio, where he graduated from Crestview Local High School. Brad was an active member of his 4H club and took multiple projects to Columbiana County Fair and Canfield Fair, including Holstein dairy cattle. Between 4H and a childhood surrounded by auctions, Brad became interested in the auction industry at an early age.
At age 16, Brad began working at Rogers Community Auction and became even more involved in the auction industry. During the annual 4H market steer auction at Columbiana County Fair, Brad was put in front of the crowd to work as a bid spotter for the auction. It was love at first bid, and Brad knew this was his calling. A week later, Brad signed up for auction school in Indiana.
Brad attended auction school at Reppert School of Auctioneering in Indianapolis, Indiana. Brad later attended Hondros College of Business and has received both his Ohio auctioneer license and real estate salesperson license.
Brad is a member of the National Auctioneers Association (NAA), Ohio Auctioneers Association (OAA), and Michigan Auctioneers Association (MAA). Brad was elected to the OAA Board in 2020 and now serves as a co-chairman of the newly established Mentorship Committee and serves on the Legislative/ Advocacy Committee. Brad has worked with state representatives, senators, the Governor of Ohio, and Congress to help pass common-sense legislation regarding the auction industry in Ohio and small businesses in the United States.
In 2020, Brad won the OAA Junior Division Bid Calling Championship and placed first runner up in the 2021 OAA Senior Division Bid Calling Championship. Brad continues to compete in multiple state and international competitions as an auctioneer. Brad is a Certified Auctioneers Institute (CAI) candidate and will graduate in 2024 to receive his CAI designation, which approximately only 800 of an estimated 55,000 auctioneers in the industry currently hold.
Brad has been on some of the most prominent auction stages in the country, including Barrett Jackson, and has worked with auctioneers and auction companies across the United States, handling live and online auctions, simulcast bidding, clerking, and much more. Brad has also conducted multiple benefit auctions for the American Heart Association and other local charities in Columbiana, Mahoning, Trumbull, Wayne, and Holmes Counties.
