If a role is likely to shift, say so. Be clear about possible job duty changes, growth expectations, and how the position may evolve over the next 12 to 18 months. That kind of transparency builds trust early and helps prevent frustration later.

Of course, employers also need to think through the bigger framework, whether that means an employment contract, at-will employment, or even a collective bargaining agreement.

When roles are expected to evolve, adaptability matters just as much as experience. Can this person learn quickly? Can they handle job changes without losing momentum? Can they grow beyond the current employee's job description as the business shifts?

Too many companies treat job descriptions like permanent documents. In reality, maintaining job descriptions is part of building a healthy hiring strategy. When the work changes, the documentation should too. That includes changing a job description when needed, clarifying job duties, and making sure internal job descriptions still match reality.
