Missouri S&T Rocket Design Team We are a student ran design team that designs, builds, and tests rockets for scientific use.

We are a dedicated group of students from The Missouri University of Science and Technology that work together to design, build, and test rockets for scientific use. Every year we design a new rocket for our competition, The Spaceport America Cup. We design and build the entire rocket from scratch out of the Missouri S&T Student Design and Experiential Learning Center (SDELC); this includes our own composite tubes and fins. We formulate our own propellant and manufacture casings for our solid motor as well. While we are actively getting things ready for our competition we are also currently in development of our first liquid engine and doing contract launches. We provide hands on experience to our members to help prepare them for jobs after college. Members are given the unique opportunity to get direct exposure to how rockets are made and education on why we do things the way that we do. Our team objective is to assist in the professional and personal development of tomorrow’s engineers by pushing the boundaries of experimental rocketry.

Rocket, MSAT, STARS, and Mars Rover invite you to join in celebration of World Space Week. We hope to see you there!
OCTOBER 1ST
Our first event will be a guest speaker, Dr. Sandra Magnus, an S&T alumni who will speak of her experiences as an engineer and former NASA Astronaut. The second event is the observatory night at the S&T observatory where everyone can watch the night sky through multiple telescopes.
OCTOBER 2ND
We will be hosting 6 alumni from the Mars Rover Design Team and Rocket Design Team to speak about their time in the space industry and at S&T.
OCTOBER 3RD
Tour of the Planets is an elementary STEM education event with interactive tables dedicated to each planet in our solar system where everyone can discover interesting facts about the planets and learn more about our solar system through hands-on exploration.
OCTOBER 4TH
We will have speaker Alicia Cianciolo, a NASA Mars mission trajectory planner, come to speak about her time at NASA.
OCTOBER 5TH
Movie Night! Join us to watch Project Hail Mary and eat some free popcorn. Recommended to bring a blanket of chair to sit on.
OCTOBER 6TH
Speaker Jacopo Frigerio will be speaking of his time as a Lockheed Martin space division engineer.
OCTOBER 7TH
Ending off space week with a space themed trivia night at Hoppers Pub. Winners will get a free prize!

FAR 2026

Throughout the weekend on June 20, we've launched our rockets, Pegasus and Leviathan, at the FAR Launch Site in California!

Pegasus successfully launched off the rail. However, due to problems with our tracking system, we lost the rocket and are unable to find it, which means we are uncertain on how fast or high it went. Even with all that, it’s the first time in almost a decade that the team launched a rocket with a full SRAD (Student Researched and Designed) motor

As for Leviathan, the launch was unsuccessful, which we found was due to issues in filling the nitrous tank. The team put in an amazing effort to resolve the issues and attempt to launch again for a total of 3 launch attempts. Unfortunately, no success

Although failure is disappointing, it is how we can learn from our mistakes and make improvements on future rockets. It’s part of the engineering process, and the goal of this design team isn’t just designing, building, and launching rockets, but also developing future engineers

Thank you to everyone who has worked countless hours on these rockets this past year, and to all of our exec, chiefs, and leads for your leadership! And farewell to everyone who is graduating!

WE’VE INCREASED OUR CROWDFUNDING GOAL!

Thanks to the support we’ve gotten, we’ve reached our original crowdfunding goal of $10,000. Therefore we’re increasing our goal to $11,500, and we’re 90% of the way there!
