Dr. Stuart W. Card of Newport, NY is being recognized for patented work exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and blockchain technology through Quotidian Engineering and Development Corporation.

Dr. Card and his colleague Mr. Christopher Smolen of Canastota, NY pioneered the use of blockchain-based cryptocurrencies for payments in vending machines and other unattended transactions. Their continued work together has expanded into the intersection of AI/ML and distributed ledger technologies, including smart contracts.

That ongoing work contributed to their issued 2025 U.S. patent (US 12271444 B2), “System and method to indemnify artificial intelligence on a blockchain,” which outlines a system for using blockchain technology to establish and manage protections related to artificial intelligence.

Ivana Maldonado of Gloversville, NY is being recognized at the Mohawk Valley Inventors Recognition Ceremony for a patented approach to making storage more flexible and convenient.

Her issued 2025 U.S. patent (US 12304689 B2), “Multi-compartment collapsible storage container,” is associated with Deco(R)ative Homes LLC. The invention provides a storage container with multiple compartments that can collapse when not in use, offering a practical solution for organizing and storing items.

Ivana is one of 68 Mohawk Valley inventors being recognized this year for 85 U.S. patents, representing patented ideas connected to communities throughout the region.

Every spring, colleges across the Mohawk Valley graduate students trained in game design and interactive media. But with relatively few game studios in the region, many leave for opportunities elsewhere or take jobs outside the field they trained for.

Before entering public service, Mayor Mike Galime built a career in technology. An optics graduate of the University of Rochester, he is also a named inventor on multiple U.S. patents, including a 2025 patent for technology that helps network systems process and analyze modern internet communications.

That means he won’t just be speaking at this year’s Inventors Recognition Ceremony. He’ll also be recognized as one of the Mohawk Valley inventors honored this year.

On October 22, Mayor Galime will share his perspective on the inventor’s journey, the patent process and the importance of encouraging the next generation to turn ideas into something more.

Dr. Donald Telesca of Whitesboro, NY is being recognized at the Mohawk Valley Recognition Ceremony for patented work focused on protecting digital files and controlling individual access to them.

His issued 2025 U.S. patent (US 12395357 B2), “Individual digital access with ternary states and one-way unclonable functions to protect digital files,” is associated with Air Force Research Laboratory - AFRL. The invention explores ways to create secure, individualized access to digital files using technologies designed to make access credentials difficult to duplicate.

Dr. Telesca is one of 68 Mohawk Valley inventors being recognized this year for 85 U.S. patents, representing patented ideas connected to communities throughout the region.

His patented work spans radio-frequency device identification using machine learning and network device authentication. Together, these inventions explore ways to use advanced technologies to identify and authenticate devices.
