Thankfully, it’s a little easier to convince you to wear long sleeves this time of year. If you’d like to extend your mosquito program, just let us know. We’ll bring the marshmallows. 🏕

Twenty-one mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus. Take precautions to avoid mosquito bites. Wear shoes and socks, long pants, and long-sleeved shirts when mosquitoes are active. Empty and scrub containers where mosquitoes may lay eggs. https://www.suffolkcountyny.gov/News/ArtMID/583/ArticleID/13744

Not the sight I expected when pulling up to a prospective clients home to evaluate a carpenter ant condition today!

This little fawn got separated from its mother, and found itself scared in a Northport client's garage. After some patience, it seemed to take a liking to me, and followed me out to the back yard, where we had a long conversation, trading "WAH's". Its mother finally came back to get it after a little while.

PSA! Don't ever touch a baby deer! If the mother picks up on human scent, its likely to abandon the baby.

Thankfully this little one got back to safety.

We have never seen anything like this before. Please make sure you and your family are doing tick checks every time you're outdoors. With the recent emergence of the Lone Star Tick, it's not as simple as staying out of the tall grass. They are active hunters. If you are having issues, or spend time outdoors, please consider having professionals maintain this major health hazard for you. Lyme is for life, folks.

The Fordham Tick Index, which estimates the risk of being bitten on a scale from 1 to 10, is currently at 10.

Here are some tips on how to avoid getting bitten: https://pix11.com/news/local-news/new-yorkers-at-highest-risk-of-tick-bites-this-week-fordham/

Spotted Lanternflies are here! Comment below with your town if youve seen them!

These are a new invasive species in our area and we are going to see more and more of them this year. As with many things in pest management, secondary effects are just as important as the initial impacts. Below are some things to keep an eye on, which may lead back to SLF in your trees.

Here are some facts:

SLF prefer feeding on the soft plant tissues of shade trees, fruit trees, and vines. They pierce and suck sap out of the stems. This leads them to excrete honeydew.

Honeydew can create a sticky mess of droplets on outdoor equipment, decks, furniture, pets, clothing, hair and vehicles.

This honeydew dries, and then ferments. This odor will attract scanvenger insects such as ants, but more importantly, a large number of bees and wasps. If you notice an unusual amount of wasps around your tree or property, LOOK UP!

Honeydew also is a great medium for sooty black mold, which can spoil various fruit crops.

Spotted Lanternflies themselves are a nuisance. But their biology lead to other pest, and health risks. If you notice unusual wasp activity, black fungi on your property, or your dog being strangely... sticky... let us know.

We are happy to offer safe treatment options for your property to keep your home, business and family safe this summer season. Give us a call any time we are happy to help.
