Our Annual meeting was held this past Tuesday, May 5th. We had an exceptional turnout for some fine River Smith's fish and chicken. I would like to give a big THANKS to our Friends who supplied door prizes! Steve Moore presided over the meeting, Tanner Martin read the minutes, Larry gave his manager's report, and Daylon handled the counting and reporting of the Director election. Caden Smith and Tanner Martin were re-elected for 3 years, Shane Tomlin was elected to fill out the remaining 2 years of a term, and Chase Schuchard and Randy Petty were elected to serve a 3-year term on the Advisory board.
Marcial Saenz, gin Superintendent, was presented with a 20 year plaque of recognition for his service to the Coop. Marcial is a very integral part of our operation.
The meeting adjourned with checks and RAIN GAUGES being handed out to our members. I sure hope the rain gauges get a lot of use!!

Also, a special thanks to Parker Neff and the Roscoe Edu-Drone program for preparing the video!! Look for it in our other post.

Tale of the Bale time!!! Today we have ginned 50,294 bales with 134 modules on the yard and 23 in the field. The end is in sight and we are fighting to get there. We have put in a lot of hours this year and are very thankful for that.

But this week has been one of those weeks. The pictures say it all.

IT'S BACK!! Tale of the Bale has been frozen (and I have been out of town and snowed in) and is now back to bring you an update. We are back to ginning as of yesterday. We had to cease operations Friday morning due to electricity problems and we had planned on being down until Monday. This storm was a little more than we thought so we waited until Tuesday due to the road conditions. We are still unable to get to the oil mill in Sweetwater because of the streets but hope to get there this afternoon.
We have ginned 46,347 bales and have 318 modules on the yard and 144 in the field. Things are looking good!!! What a blessing this year has been and continues to be!

Tale of the Bale time!! We have ginned 40,221 bales and have 388 modules on the yard and 642 in the field. Still have a little harvesting going on. The guys at the gin are doing great!! I really appreciate their hard work and effort to process this crop for our producers.

The chart below shows our production for the last several years. the big years have been blessings and the smaller years, well, let's just say the struggles are real. But our producers are resilient and push through!!
***side note*** We will gin more this year than the last 3 years put together. Thank you Lord!!

TALE OF THE BALE!! This morning we have ginned 36,060 bales and have 333 modules on the yard and 1,010 modules in the field. Harvest is quickly slowing down and it has become clear that we will gin WAY more bales than I predicted. I have never missed a bale estimate this much in my 45 years of ginning. We are blessed!!

Ever wonder how all those round modules that look alike keep their identity? The technology of the ginning industry is advancing as rapidly as the rest of the world. When the RMB (Round Module Baler) came out there was a need for identity and an opportunity for information. Using the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags as pictured below, each round module is uniquely "tagged". The information available on this little tag is tremendous. The producer has the option to embed farm number, variety, date and time produced, humidity and temperature when produced, as well as moisture of the cotton harvested. Why is this important? Gins have begun to not only track the modules using the RFID but also to integrate with the drying system in the gin. The amount of heat needed to properly gin the cotton can be adjusted according to the information on the RFID tag. High moisture when the cotton was harvested may need to be dried a little more to obtain the most efficient moisture to separate the lint form the seed without damaging the fiber. Low moisture when harvested does not require as much heat and saves money because the gin doesn't have to turn up the heaters as much.

All of this helps put money back into our producers pocket by making our gins more efficient and economical.

TALE OF THE BALE time!! We hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and enjoyed time with family and friends. We took a well deserved break for 2 1/2 days this week and came back ready to go! We have processed 31,915 bales and have 303 modules on the yard with another 1,273 in the field. Harvest is slowing down but we are still averaging over 50 modules turned in daily. I am thankful for the harvest turning out like it has this year. We are truly blessed!!
This season we have had to change our style of removing the wrap from the round modules. A bit more cumbersome but doable. The cotton may come in wrapped in different colors but it all leaves wrapped in blue. So what happens to the removed plastic? We bale it for recycling. Nothing goes to waste around a cotton gin!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!! I always enjoy "module artwork" and this is no exception. Since our yard is stacked with modules side by side, we did not see this until it was unloaded on the feeder. Thank you to that producer for making my day better.

Speed bumps - this week has had a few speed bumps but the crew has been great about making repairs. We had a motor that was running fine when we quit but was locked up the next morning. Had some other issues but that is to be expected when you are running machinery. As you can see, we have good supply of spare parts. From motors, to bearings and sprockets, to complete cylinders we have most what we need for on the go repairs.

Tale of the Bale - So as of this morning we have processed 29,143 bales and have 341 modules on the yard with 1,239 in the field. We continue to be blessed with more modules than we thought possible. Still harvesting!!

Time for "Tale of the Bale"! We have ginned 24,924 as of this morning and have 408 modules on the yard with 1,142 in the field. We are still getting quite a few turned in every day but I think by the end of the week or first of next week it will start slowing down. This crop is a true blessing, turning out even more than we dared hope for. God is good!!
Last Friday we had our Christmas Open House at the office. It is so good to get to see our customers and catch up on what's been happening. The conversation was great but the food was even better!! The wives of the Directors, as well as Kelly and Cynthia, sure do know how to cook!!! Thank you to all who had a part in this annual event.
