A little Oaken Co milestone 🌿

On September 10, I’m celebrating Oaken Co with a ribbon cutting through the Roseville Area Chamber of Commerce.

The last few months have brought a lot of new faces, new connections, and a lot of “sure, why not?” moments 😅 and I’m really grateful for how welcoming the Roseville business community has been.

I mean fair perspective. It's not that I would not want to trade places but I have come so far in this last year. Starting a business has come with a lot of learning and personal growth.

Things I saved before I knew exactly why.

A bridge I’ve photographed more than once because I love the structure of it. And tonight we were next to it again and well I have another dozen pictures of it 🫢 Dry grass and the kind of muted color palette I always seem to come back to. Coffee cups, handwritten notes, geese because I love them, old disaster imagery, overly detailed illustrations, retro games, gym equipment for some work and a hot tub because I really like that shade of blue-purple.

Some of these were saved for actual projects. The old emergency images and diagrams have been living beside the Stormborn build. The retro game references were for another concept. The coffee and tiny flowers came from Temple Coffee and immediately made me think about my ribbon cutting. Some are random Ai illustrations and whatnot because I actually kind of liked them.

Other things just made it in there and I'm sure I'll figure out why later 😅

This is usually what the beginning of an idea looks like for me, I don't always start with a mood board it's more chaotic.

This thought popped into my head while I was working on a client project…

If your website could actually talk, what would it tell people about your business?

Would it tell your story?
Would it build trust?
Would it make people excited to work with you?

Or would it leave them with more questions than answers?

I think websites are one of the few places where design and storytelling get to work together, and that’s one of the reasons I love building them.

So now I’m curious…
