This is what service looks like.

A builder told us they wanted to create a time-lapse of their project for their client.

When we looked at the view from the camera, we realized it worked fine for security but it wasn't going to make for a very good time-lapse.

So we sent our MSU manager out to reposition it and get them a better shot.

Yes, our primary job is stopping bad things from happening. But sometimes it's fun to help make the good stuff look good too.

That's the Safe Choice difference. We don't just monitor cameras. We pay attention to what our clients are trying to accomplish and look for ways to help.

Illegal dumping is not just ugly.

It is expensive.

Every mattress, appliance, bag of trash, or pile of construction debris that gets left on a property creates costs.

Cleanup. Hauling. Maintenance time. Tenant complaints. Frustrated customers. Damage to the way the property looks and feels.

And once people figure out they can dump there without consequence, they tend to come back.

That is why I would rather stop one dumping attempt than document ten of them.

Our monitoring teams regularly use live video and two-way audio to intervene while people are still on the property. In many cases, the announcement alone is enough to get them to load everything back into the truck and leave.

That is a much better outcome than sending a property manager a video the next morning showing exactly who left the refrigerator behind.

Prevention is almost always cheaper than cleanup.

I was visiting a property management client this week and snapped this photo.

One of the most overlooked benefits of a good security program is time.

Time the property manager doesn't spend chasing a tow company.

Time the superintendent doesn't spend pulling video.

Time the facility manager doesn't spend coordinating three different vendors after an incident.

Time leadership doesn't spend trying to figure out who was supposed to respond.

Security is usually viewed as a cost center.

Fair enough.

But when it works well, it also gives operational time back to people whose job is not security.

That's one of the reasons I like the outsourced-security model.

The client still owns the business.

We own more of the security problem.

A surprising number of workplace safety problems aren't hidden.

People know about them.

The aggressive customer everyone avoids.
The employee who has been escalating for weeks.
The door that never locks correctly.
The parking lot where employees don't feel safe after dark.
The problem is that nobody reports it because "that's just how it is."

A workplace violence prevention program can have a perfect policy and still fail if employees don't believe reporting matters.

The real test of the culture is what happens after someone speaks up.

Do we listen?
Do we evaluate it?
Do we close the loop?

Reporting is not complaining.

It's one of the earliest security controls an organization has.

A camera can record someone stealing copper.

It can give you a beautiful 4K video of the truck leaving your site.

You can send that video to the police the next morning.

And you can still be missing $20,000 worth of material.

That is the problem with passive security.

The goal should not be to create better evidence after the theft.

The goal should be to interrupt the theft while it is happening.

Cheap security is expensive when it doesn't work.

So is expensive security.

I've seen organizations spend significant money on guards nobody supervises, cameras nobody watches, alarms nobody trusts, and reports nobody reads.

The issue isn't always the budget.

It's whether the dollars are connected to an outcome.

If you're spending $100,000 to prevent a $10,000 problem, that's probably not a good plan.
If you're spending $10,000 on a system that doesn't prevent anything, that's not a good plan either.

Security has to survive the same question as every other business expense:

What are we getting for it?

The answer should be more specific than "peace of mind."
