Sunday thought.

I believe He is in control. That gives me peace most people are looking for in all the wrong places. But I have watched too many people turn that peace into a parking spot. I prayed about it. The Lord will handle it. And then nothing moves.

Faith is an active word. He does His part. He expects you to show up for yours.

Every productivity system I have ever used, I learned in a minivan.

Pick them up, get them changed, get myself changed, get everybody where they need to be, and still walk in on time. Nothing in corporate America has asked more of my calendar than that.

So when someone tells me they cannot find the time, I ask a different question: what are you treating as optional that a mother would not?

Took the whole family to vote early today.

Thirty years in corporate rooms taught me one thing above all else: decisions get made whether you are present or not. Voting is the one decision table no one can keep you from.

Leaders show up. They bring the next generation with them. If early voting is open where you are, make your plan this week.

Here is a leadership habit I learned early and have never regretted.

Before you correct someone, go look. Not at what a peer told you. Not at what you assume. At the work itself. You inspect what you expect, and then you have the conversation from facts.

It takes ten more minutes. It saves you a good employee, and it saves you from being the leader who manages by rumor.

"You need to be more strategic."

If you have ever walked out of a review with that sentence and no idea what to do with it, you are not alone. Most leaders cannot give feedback with an example attached. And most employees do not know they are allowed to ask for one.

So ask. Calmly. Can you give me an example?

If they have one, you now have something real to work on. If it is crickets, you have learned the feedback was a feeling, and feelings can be reshaped. Either way, you walked out with evidence instead of a verdict.

The most expensive sentences in a career are the ones said without a plan.

I have watched talented people lose years of hard-earned trust in one meeting, because they walked in with a feeling and no decision about what they were there to say. The room did not remember the point. It remembered the moment.

So before the hard conversation, write down the one thing you need them to walk away with. Say that. Let the rest go.

The promotion was decided before the meeting.

I have spent thirty years in the rooms where careers are decided, and here is what I can tell you: nobody in that room ranks your work. Someone describes you in one sentence, everyone nods, and the decision moves on. You find out on Tuesday.

That sentence is your career. And most people have never heard theirs.

The inside work is deciding what you want said about you, then making it true in the conversations you keep postponing. The ask. The boundary. The honest feedback.
