SQUIRRELS IN CHIMNEYS… AND KEEPING THE WIFE HAPPY

We’re training on the three common scenarios when squirrels get stuck in chimneys: down the inner flue pipe, between the inner and outer flue pipes, or inside the chimney box.

And as our customer reminds us in the background, there’s another important part of the job—making sure the wife is happy with the outcome!

When a squirrel is stuck in an inaccessible area and odor becomes an issue, we can treat with an odor enzyme and absorbent odor bag. Then we seal the chimney with the proper screening by code to help prevent squirrels and other wildlife from getting back in.

Carpenter Ant Biology Matters

In this video, we’re showing how carpenter ants can be different sizes within the same colony, a characteristic known as polymorphism.

Carpenter ants typically excavate wood along the grain, creating smooth, clean galleries with small entry or exit holes. As they excavate, they push out sawdust-like material called frass, which can be an important clue when locating activity.

Knowing pest biology is a huge part of proper identification. The better we understand how a pest lives, moves, nests, and behaves, the better we can develop a comprehensive treatment plan instead of simply treating what we see.

CARPENTER ANTS IN YOUR ATTIC? CHECK FOR MOISTURE.

In this video, we’re showing a carpenter ant colony inside an attic near a roof leak. Carpenter ants often nest in moisture-damaged or rotting wood, so treating the ants alone may not solve the problem.

At first glance, it looks like this leaf is just floating in midair…

Nope. It’s SPIDER SEASON.

That leaf is actually suspended by a spider web—and it’s a great reminder of just how much spider activity is happening around homes right now.

Late summer and early fall are prime spider season in Georgia. Webs can quickly build around rooflines, gutters, porches, decks, windows, doors, landscaping, and other exterior areas.
