We weren't kidding when we say we have journeyed from the Pacific to the Atlantic in our RV travels. Here we are in John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo.

At this spot we were able to visit the corral reefs on a glass-bottom boat and see all the action swimming below the surface in the tropical waters. It was also fun to see the various lizards roaming the area as well.

Something we did note is that travel time between the Keys is extremely long, so this isn't the best Key to stay on if you want to experience the western Keys, but the advantage is that the price was so low (about $40 per night) it may be worth the extra travel time.

We will return someday, however, we'll stay a little deeper in.

Picture this: you're on a long road trip and pull over for the night at a campground. Then, at 2AM you discover this.

I oh so carefully sneaked out to get some incredible shots throughout the area. Not a soul was up - just pure, peaceful silence in a very crowded state campground.

The hardest part? Falling back asleep after taking such beautiful photos.

Where will you end up on this unpredictable lifestyle?

Today we tackle one of the most dangerous and cliche phrases in RV forums and Facebook groups: "I can't even tell it's back there!". And, indeed, some people aren't in tune enough with their rigs to know if they're hauling or not, but others use it as declaration of pride even though below the surface they're full of doubt and conviction.

Let's not forget that some of our rigs are nearing the length of a semi, as in this photo above (we lined up our RV bumper to the rear of the semi trailer for this illustration), and not having that keen towing sense developed can lead to some catastrophic consequences. Misjudging the breezy conditions, not detecting sway before it wags you out of control, trailer hydroplaning, blowouts, suspension failures - most of these conditions can be prevented or the impact minimized if you're connected -- one with your tow vehicle AND trailer.

Let's explore this together on our most recent Blog post and learn why this can be a deadly situation. Link to the site in my profile or check your email if you're signed up for our RV Lifestyle Roadmap list.

Yes, it's true. This is what got us in the beginning and we were forced to trade in our brand new trailer for something more manageable for our Tahoe. It was heartbreaking. Let's set expectations now before it happens to you. This way, you can be prepared and armed with the knowledge you need to find the RIGHT combination *the first time*. You can do this, we can help. Sometimes you just need to go out and spend some time away from home, work, busy campgrounds, and find a place where you can really connect to and let your soul simply rest. That's exactly what we did on this trip - let our spirit relax, recover, and reflect for all that life was throwing at us. It was a surreal experience and we look forward to doing more of these types of trips.
Where do you like to go to do the same?

These sunsets were absolutely iconic at Bottomless Lakes State Park in November. We stayed for a couple weeks (so we could thoroughly enjoy nearby Roswell) and were greeted by the evening sun like this on a few occasions. Everything seemed to glimmer with a pink and orange hue, which really adds a new dimension to the surrounding lakes and scenery.

As for the campground, great cell data signal for remote work and the campground host was very kind (and even had a few personal UFO stories for us!).

There are many places to walk and explore so exercise won't be a problem. We also enjoyed that the spots were separated pretty well.

Yes, there were occasional rowdy families with children in attendance, and there was a bad habit of patrons speeding through the campground (like most), but for the most part my work was uninterrupted and our chill status was high.

My two recommendations for anyone associated with a campground:
1) you actually have to enforce your speed limits 😉
2) there was a fair amount of trash around some of the lakes back on the trails that needed to be picked up.

Someday we will return!

Everything is fine. Ok, maybe not. Mr. (or Mrs.) Park Manager, could you please consider moving to a more... quiet spot, please?
Yes, this happens and sometimes, if you're lucky like we were in the park above, they'll move you to a calmer, more peaceful place in the RV. This spot in the back was recently vacated. Typically, spots like this are reserved for long-term residents.

It was so much more peaceful here as the spot we were in before was directly by the road - roaring with logging trucks all day and all night long. You could still hear them, but at least I could actually get my work done during the day now. We only ended up staying for a week, but it seems like so much longer because of the memories connected to the intense work I was performing during the day (and commonly looking up and out of the window) and then the kind resident interactions we had in the evenings. I still wonder if these people are there today. Maybe someday we'll find out.

It's moments like this that makes it all worth it. We live for it, strive for it, and long for it to happen again the next time. If you're interested in this as well, be sure to check the link in our profile. You can do this too - sometimes we all just need a little bump in the right direction. 🙂

This one caused some head scratching. Do you think tents belong in RV sites? While we have seen tents pitched in RV spaces before, this was a unique placement - right over the neighbor's sewer connection to the side and over the boundary in the rear RV site (she belonged to the party with the white motorhome in the center frame). Actually, you can't see the RV in the rear ( to the left of the tent) site because it's just out of frame, but the tent is almost touching it. The owners of that RV in the rear site were uncomfortable disconnecting their utilities the next morning and the ones to the (right) side had to talk to the tent lady so they could hook up their sewer line under the tent. 😅🤦
Yes, the song is slightly inappropriate, yet totally appropriate at the same time. 🤭

We arrived at this spot around 9 PM, way later than we prefer. There wasn't much we could do because of a roadside issue.
Backing into this spot was an absolute beast between the trees with the angles of the approach and the extremely limited visibility. In times like this, it's absolutely necessary to have a spotter and a few auxiliary lights set up at the base of the two outer trees.
However, the campground vibe was very chill - people out everywhere and the sound was pretty manageable - just a dull roar with small campfires and fun little light-up decorations. Wished we could have stayed longer, but we were up and leaving right away in the morning.

The evening before snow would settle in and further enhance our already breathtaking scenery. Unfortunately, we can no longer stay here or some other campgrounds like it because our newer RV exceeds the campground maximum length. This is one of those serious trade-offs you have to consider when choosing your rig size - just another part of our services we help you work through when assessing RV compatibility with your lifestyle. Opportunities like this can be entirely missed. And the incredible, lifelong stories attached to places like this still call our souls to this day.
However, we were thankful for the time we did have with our smaller RV and hope to get another one someday so we can return to sites like this.

Have you tried winter camping before? This wasn't intentional, and actually it wasn't even winter - it was early fall. But, nonetheless, Colorado threw a curve ball after the beautiful 60 and 70° days just before. The evening before the snow hit, we combined forces with my father and brother to put a quick barrier around the RV. And... it worked! With temps hovering around 8° F outside, the underbelly stayed in the lower 30's at night and mid -40's during the day. We departed 2 days later and continued our journey south.
Later, we'll post some pictures of some deliberate RV camping in the cold weather.
