IT'S CONTEST TIME ONCE AGAIN!!!
This time we're featuring delicious SANDERS Chocolate!
All you have to do is follow or like this page and write
"I CRAVE SANDERS" and you will be entered. One name will be chosen at random on October 31st and the winner will receive a sampler box of everyone's favorite chocolate - SANDERS! www.SandersCandy.com

Sanders has been a Detroit favorite since June 17, 1875, offering premium ice cream, cookies, Bumpy Cake, gourmet dessert toppings, fine chocolates, and snacks. It all started when Fred Sanders opened the first Sanders store on Woodward Avenue near State Street in Detroit. Fred would make chocolates all night at home in the kitchen with his wife, then work to provide good customer service all day at the store.

The brand grew, and by the 1950's Sanders products and stores became woven into the traditions of Detroit families. Going to Sanders for a Sundae during a downtown trip, blowing out birthday candles on a Sanders cake and sharing laughs over a bowl of ice cream covered in Sanders Hot Fudge became the standard.

Sanders went through tough times in the 1990's, but after about a decade of manufacturing some of the Sanders products, Morley Candy Makers purchased the Sanders brand and original recipes in 2002, starting its revival. Today Sanders is a classic national brand thanks to Morley.

There are currently nine Sanders Chocolate & Ice Cream Shoppes in Michigan and Sanders products can be found in multiple retailers across the United States or online at www.SandersCandy.com. Please visit the Sanders page at https://www.facebook.com/SandersCandy/.

Sanders has grown from single hand lines making a couple hundred pounds of chocolate per week to multiple lines allowing its candy makers to prepare hundreds of thousands of chocolates each day. The company employs over 200 people and operates on a global scale.

And as far as the name is concerned… According to company officials, while many people pronounce it “Saunders,” the correct pronunciation is “Sanders.” However, they do not correct anyone. A rose is still a rose no matter the name!

Please stop by a Sanders location today for a taste from the past or order some on line.

This is one of my favorite contests!!!

The debate has gone on for centuries – whose mom is the best ever! Think it’s yours? If so, we at Better Made Snack Foods want you to tell us why! Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 13th and between now and then you have the opportunity to submit a short essay on why your mom should be named Better Made’s Mother of the Year! Maybe it was the great lunches she made you for school, letting friends camp out in the backyard, a surprise birthday party or surprise trip to the ice cream parlor after a baseball or soccer game, or maybe even a fun trip to the zoo. No matter your age or reason, we want to know. The mom that is chosen will receive a sampler box containing 15 bags of delicious Better Made Snacks Foods!

Stories with photos can be submitted via e-mail to [email protected], on Facebook, or by sending in an entry to Better Made Mother’s Day Contest, 10148 Gratiot Avenue, Detroit, MI 48213. All submissions will be posted on the Better Made website. The deadline for entries is Saturday, May 12th and the winner will be chosen on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13th.

Warning to everyone out there who may be moving or contemplating a move... DO NOT use Two Men and a Truck, especially the one on Rankin Street in Troy!!! They destroyed some of our antique furniture, and despite having paid for the best insurance they offered, the company will not pay us the replacement value or anything for that matter. The two items are over 100 years old and irreplacable. DO NOT use Two Men and a Truck!

Hello everyone!!! After a well deserved rest from the busy holidays, I took January off and am now back with more great posts on Michigan made items! Because we got pelted with 10 inches of snow and the fact that thousands of people are down with the flu, I have a terrific solution for you!

It's called the Cold & Flu Rescue Kit by Choices Organic Body & Bath in Shelby Township and Grosse Pointe Michigan.

The three-piece kit, developed by Helga Soave of Choices Organic Bath and Body, contains a Shower Therapy Cold and Flu cake that dissolves in hot steam in the shower. Inhaling the essential oil steam opens sinuses and helps to clear any congestion. And like 100 years ago, the shower cake may be broken into pieces and put in a bowl of steaming hot water. People just drape a towel over their heads and bowl, close their eyes and breath in deeply. This helps loosen up mucus and clear the chest.

The second component is an Epsom Salt cake infused with essential oils that is used in a hot bath. It helps people relax and sleep well. Simply fill the tub with hot (not scalding) water, put in the cake, and soak to get relief from the aches and pains associated with cold and/or flu.

The last part is a Cold and Flu Balm used on the chest and back that contains a proprietary essential oil blend that will facilitate easier breathing throughout the night. The three part kit is only $32 and I can tell you from personal experience that it works!

“Epsom Salt has many good uses and can help body rest, recover, detoxify, and increase its white-blood cell count,” says Helga, developer of the Cold and Flu Rescue Kit and many other skin care products products. “With cold and flu season underway, doctors say you should try soaking in Epsom salt before you reach for an expensive over-the-counter drug. This naturally occurring mineral will ease muscle aches and help you get a good night’s rest, so you can recover faster.”

“Our Epson salt cakes are blended with essential oils to give your body a second defense. Essential oils can relieve many cold and flu symptoms, such as headaches, body aches and pains, fatigue, congestion, stuffed up airways, and more. All of our products are completely natural and developed with families in mind, because they contains a decongestant and antibacterial medley of essential oils that is uplifting and nourishing to the body.”

"Our grandparents knew a thing or two. They knew that steam inhalation is a method of introducing warm, moist air into the lungs via the nose and throat for therapeutic benefit. The hot steam moistens the nasal passages, and clears blocked noses and opens up congested sinuses allowing you to breathe more easily. Essential oils reinforce these benefits.”

As a child, Helga wandered the fields around her village in Germany searching out plants and feeling their texture, rubbing their leaves, and smelling their unique scents. She went on to study chemistry, always aware of the diversity nature offers. She was a voracious reader, and herbal medicine was her biggest interest.

Choices Organic Bath and Body has two locations, one at 45633 Hayes Road in Shelby Township and one at 17112 Kercheval in Grosse Pointe. For more information about products, please call 586/2626288, or visit
